The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to terms with defenseman Kris Letang and re-signed forward Pascal Dupuis on Tuesday. Letang, a finalist for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman, signed an eight-year, $58 million contract extension.  His new deal begins during the 2014-15 season and runs through 2021-22.  Letang will be 35-years-old when the contract is up. Dupuis, who could have become an unrestricted free agent Friday, received a four-year, $15 million deal. Letang 26, had 38 points in 35 games (5 goals, 33 assists).  He has 44 goals and 165 assists in 385 career games over six-plus seasons. “He’s a very important player for us. He’s getting better as a defenseman,” Penguins general manager Ray Shero said. “His best days are ahead of him. It’s fortunate for us that we can sign him and keep him playing for the Penguins.” The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Dupuis reached the 20-goal mark for the second-straight year in 2012-13.  He finished the season with 36 blocked shots and 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 48 games.  He also scored seven goals and four assists in 15 playoff games.
