Defenseman Matt Niskanen has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team announced Saturday. Niskanen, 25, who was set to become a free agent Sunday, received a two-year contract worth $2.3 million a year, the team said. The 6-foot-9 Niskanen was coming off his first full season with the Penguins, scoring four goals and assisting on 17 others. He finished with a plus-9 rating in 75 regular-season games. The Virginia, Minn., native was acquired by the Penguins with James Neal in a trade on Feb. 21, 2011.
