Uniondale, NY -- Milan Jurcina and Nino Niederreiter are making progress to return to the Islanders lineup.
“Jurcina , I think, is ready to go when called upon,” Islanders head coach Jack Capuano said following his teams 3-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. “Nino should skate with the team if not by the end of the week then by the first of the week.”
Both players have yet...

Few series, especially ones in the regular season, sear memories into the brain like the Pens and Islanders did last year. From Sidney Crosbyâs desperate attempts to keep his point streak alive, to Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro acting like he won the...
People have known for a while that John Tavares is a pretty fair hockey player. Hey, there is a reason he was the first prospect selected in the 2009 entry draft. And it is no surprise his game has improved every year that he has been in the league. Blend that much talent with such an outstanding work ethic, and a steady upgrade is nearly inevitable.

The Islanders have three goaltenders on their roster, but the team is still waiting for one of them to establish himself as the clear No. 1. The dilemma hasn’t been helped by the fact the two goalies who have started -- Evgeni Nabokov and Al Montoya -- have played...
The Islanders and Penguins, who racked up an astonishing 346 penalty minutes in a meeting last season, did not fight Tuesday in Pittsburgh’s shutout victory.
The Islanders and the Penguins, who combined for 346 penalty minutes and 10 ejections in a February game, have a rematch Tuesday.
What the Islanders said yesterday and what they feel tonight when the puck drops against the Penguins at the Coliseum might be two separate sentiments.“For me, it’s not even a rivalry,” coach Jack Capuano told the team’s website after yesterday’s practice. “It’s just another game...
The New York Islanders seemingly caught Pittsburgh for a home-and-home set at the wrong time, as former Conn Smythe Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin returned to the Penguins' lineup in Tuesday's opener.
Then again, there is hardly ever a good time for the Islanders to face Pittsburgh as long as Marc-Andre Fleury is in net.
Coming off a shutout that was his ninth win in 11 starts...
Faced with overcoming yet another injury, the Pittsburgh Penguins don't seem too concerned about last year's rift with the New York Islanders.
Regrouping from back-to-back losses remains the focus of Islanders coach Jack Capuano.
Seeking a fourth consecutive victory, the Penguins look to continue their domination of the Islanders when the teams begin a home-and-home set...
