Hyped Up Hockey:
Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin has been practicing, and working hard to recover from his upper body injury to return to the Penguins lineup. Once Malkin is cleared by doctors to play he will be eager to return to the ice, but should Penguins coach Dan Bylsma let him? Pittsburgh has clinched the top seed [...]
BEST OF MAXIM
So after Jack Edwards made his now famous comments about Matt Cooke in the first period, he had someone to deal with during the first intermission.
Via the PG:
Penguins general manager Ray Shero was visibly enraged when he learned of Edwards' comments and confronted him in the first intermission.
Edwards apologized shortly thereafter.
With the NHL regular season nearing it’s end, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby maintains a 3 point lead over Tampa Bay forwards Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. Stamkos and St. Louis have four game remaining 4/21 vs. Carolina 4/24 vs. Toronto 4/25 vs. Boston 4/27 vs. Florida Rounding out the top five are Chicago’s [...]
So, I ask you. What is wrong with Jack Edward's comments? "Nominating Cooke for the Masterton is about the equivalent of nominating Sirhan Sirhan as the prisoner of the year," Edwards said.
Personally, I don't have a problem with those comments. Cooke is a reckless, dirty and dangerous player, who is responsible for many random, bush league acts on the ice over...
Call me a glutton for punishment.
Recently, I spent a couple of hours watching the highlights (if you could call them that) of the Penguins' last three seasons of playoff games since winning the Stanley Cup in 2009.
As you can imagine, it wasn't pretty. But it wasn't pretty exclusively due to Marc-Andre Fleury, as has been a common scapegoat, let's make that...
Hockey returned to Boston after a one-day postponement, and Jarome Iginla scored the tiebreaking goal that gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win over the Bruins on Saturday and home-ice advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The game was pushed back by one day because of the manhunt for a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, who was captured Friday night.
When a conversation takes place regarding the best teams in NHL history the names that usually come up are Gretzky’s Oilers, Lafleur’s Canadiens, and Orr’s Bruins. Based on the sheer talent that they display on a nightly basis, could a case be made to include the 2013 Pittsburgh Penguins in that conversation? A case could [...]
Emotions were running high following a moving pregame ceremony as the Boston Bruins hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon, just hours after an extensive manhunt for one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects concluded.
Unfortunately, this emotion apparently got the best of NESN announcer Jack Edwards as he made an inappropriate (and bizarre) comparison between...
I am sorry for insulting Matt Cooke, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the National Hockey League, and anyone else upset by my Cooke comments.

I made a mistake. My fault all the way. This is my apology.Bad week, bad emotional reaction by me.

BOSTON — The Bruins are obviously no fans of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke, and they aren’t afraid to let anyone know about it apparently.
Cooke was in the middle of things again Saturday night when he delivered a questionable hit to Boston defenseman Adam McQuaid during the second period of Pittsburgh’s 3-2 win over the B’s.
Bruins coach Claude Julien was clearly...
Reasonable question: If you are the Penguins, do you dress Matt Cooke in Ottawa tonight? Chances are nothing will happen Monday night when the Pens and Sens square off. However, the Senators, their owner and their bizarre fan base seem intent on starting something. Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if the Senators open the game by showing the results of Eugene Melynk's ...
The Pens are the kings of the Eastern Conference.
The target it locked on. But you know what they say...when you take a shot at the king you best not miss.
The Pens win 3-2 in an emotional situation in Boston. ( Should have been 3-1 the Bruins scored with two second left.)
Jarome Iginla got the goal-ahead goal midway through the third period on the...
We as sports fans are passionate, sometimes overly. Go on any message board or large commenting section about a controversial topic and you will observe anonymous individuals making statements that are more insulting and callous than they are creative. However, this is not something you expect from a commentator or play-by-play man in a sport. Though they may have the same type of...
Tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Ottawa to play the Senators and this will be the first matchup between the Senators and Penguins since the defenseman Erik Karlsson was injured by a check by Matt Cooke. From reading some of the news articles around the web, it would appear that this is going to be one of those must watch games.
One almost has to suspect there will be...

The road to the Stanley Cup goes through Fifth Avenue. Following a tumultuous week, The Pens and Bruins stood together with the citizens of Boston and 'Merica before and after the game.
But in between, the Pens found the teabags the colonists once threw into the Boston Harbor and inserted them into the fans' mouths. It was great...
It means so much less than so many things in the grand scope of everything, but it will be nice to have hockey. Go Pens. Go Boston.
