The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Matt D'Agostini to a one-year, $550,000 contract. The 26-year-old D'Agostini has 47 goals and 48 assists in 267 career games with Montreal, St. Louis and New Jersey. He split time with the Blues and Devils in 2013, collecting three goals and three assists in 29 games. D'Agostini scored a career-high 21 goals for St. Louis in 2010-11. The Penguins are looking for depth at forward after trading Tyler Kennedy to San Jose and losing veterans Matt Cooke and Jarome Iginla in free agency. D'Agostini says he'll ''fit into any role that Pittsburgh wants from me.'' He has spent time on both scoring lines and checking lines during his career.

The Missing Piece: Rob Scuderi by @KyleFourOneTwo

The Missing Piece: Rob Scuderi During the first day of free agency, fans of the Penguins rode quite the emotional rollercoaster. We bid adieu to Matt Cooke, who most likely...

Dont get me wrong, I love Joe Mullen and I still believe that he is the greatest American to lace up hockey [...]

Matt Cooke Trying to Ditch Reputation as Dirty Player With Minnesota Wild

After 15 years in the NHL, there’s a part of Matt Cooke‘s game that he’d like to lose: his reputation for the rough stuff. With five suspensions levied by the league and other acts criticized over the course of his career, the left wing still has work to do with the image makeover. But the Minnesota Wild’s view of Cooke when the market opened was that he is a reliable penalty...

Matt Cooke requests permission from Derek Boogaard's family to wear #24

The number is a special one for Wild fans as it was the number worn by the late Derek Boogaard.  In an extremely respectful gesture, Cooke reached out to Boogaard's family and requested permission to wear #24 with the Wild, as reported by the Star...

The Penguins were the oldest team in the NHL last season. Some other interesting trends

Great work by QuantHockey on the NHL Average ages. Last season the Penguins were the oldest team in the NHL: Now, that number for the Penguins is probably off because Brenden Morrow and Jarome Iginla are 150 years old. The Penguins seem to be headed down that road again though. And that is where it gets interesting. Because the average age, especially in the playoffs...
