This is a completely non-Red Wings related bit of news...but I just had to share it - especially since we're all down in the dumps today.

Let me preface this story with the fact that I had heard about this a few days ago on the NHL Home Ice XM station in my car and was laughing hysterically.  But, like many things in life...I completely forgot about it by the time I got home...that is...until now.

A big stick tap to Joe Lachovsky (@TheBigLachovsky) for reminding me via twitter.  See, NOHS Chris - you could have beaten me to this story if you were on twitter...

Make the jump for the story...you'll be sorry if you don't.

Dustin Penner Is Out With Pancake-Related Back Spasms

The L.A. Kings winger missed Saturday's game, and is questionable for tonight. He's still trying to get over a recent onset of back spasms, triggered by an insidiously hearty breakfast.

"Apparently it's one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it out (from) sneezing. I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made."

Ah yes, delicious pancakes. Scourge of the NHL. Ended Keith Tkachuk's career far too soon.

How's that for some hilarity after an embarassing loss to the Isles?

Actually, it kind of makes me sad.  I usually boast about how tough hockey players are and then rattle off some ridiculous non-hockey injury like Dwayne Wade being carted off in a wheelchair after separating his shoulder or the baseball players that sit out for sleeping in awkward positions.

Thanks for lowering the bar and brightening our day, Dustin.
