The Penguins got some good news yesterday morning when they learned that their crack medical team misread the X-ray on James Neal’s foot; turned out to be just a bruise and not a break that would’ve kept him out for a month.
Neal manned up and said since playing on it couldn’t make things worse, why not give it a go…that’s hockey. It’s just too bad the Pens aren’t playing very good hockey right now.
Even with Neal in the lineup, the Pens couldn’t keep their losing streak from extending to five with a 5-1 loss to the Senators.
Last night was bad…really bad. Say what you want about their losses to division rivals over the last two weeks; last night was completely different. It was easily the worst game the Pens have played during their current skid. The team came out flat, played with no emotion and got embarrassed in every aspect.
The injuries don’t help but they’re no excuse. With Geno Malkin, Chris Kunitz and Neal on the top line, it’s the only real threat defenses have to worry ab

Neal and Adams both expected on the ice against Ottawa tonight
When everything was starting to look pretty bleak for the Penguins we get a glimmer of good news. The Penguins Report said today that both James Neal and Craig Adams were on the ice for morning skate and will be playing tonight. After Saturday’s loss Coach Byslma said Neal would be out “weeks, not days” with a broken foot. And Craig Adams who was hurt in Sunday’s practice...
ALL-STAR GAME: James Neal gets to stay at home
James Neal's 21 goals weren't enough to get him into the All-Star Game. NHL was probably mad that the Penguins were getting people to vote for Sidney Crosby for some reason.

Complete All-Star Game Roster
The weirdest part is that only five goalies are listed on the Roster page, including only two Eastern Conference goalies. (UPDATE...
James Neal's Diagnosis Reversed. Are Initial Examinations Too Hasty?
What a difference a couple days make. In the case of James Neal, a couple days was the difference between having a broken foot (as we commented on in a recent article on the injuries mounting in Pittsburgh) and being able to play against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.
I'm not sure which is more bizarre, Neal's changing diagnosis or the bizarre Dustin Penner pancake...
All-Star roster announced, Neal snubbed, what a joke
The NHL released the top-six vote getters for this year’s All-Star game last week and surprise surprise four of them were Senators. This year’s game is in Ottawa and the voting sounds pretty familiar to the shady business that went on last year that got four Hurricanes voted to the game when it was held in Carolina.
Well today the leagues released the rest of the players...
James Neal will play for Penguins vs. Ottawa, has foot made of magic
The combination of Jordan Staal's knee injury and James Neal's broken foot, along with the continued absence of Sidney Crosby, had people tossing around the word "devastating" for the Pittsburgh Penguins over the next few weeks. Even The Pensblog was speechless.
But here's something we all underestimated: James Neal is a hockey player. He's made of sterner...
Depleted Pens' fate could hinge on the status of captain Crosby

Evgeni Malkin only Penguin named All-Star
The Penguins have been on quite a slide as of late and that may have contributed to our lack of representation at the NHL All-Star Game in a couple weeks. Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin is the only one to make the roster. Malkin is having a great season for the Penguins, is 9th in the NHL in points scored and only 7 points behind the leader. Though one could probably have...

By now you all know the deal.
Jordan Staal's done for 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain. James Neal is likely out at least that long and maybe more after breaking his foot blocking a shot against New Jersey. And during a Sunday practice called...
Pens' Neal, Adams say they're ready to play tonight
The Penguins got some welcome and unexpected medical news today, as forwards James Neal (foot) and Craig Adams pronounced themselves ready to return to the lineup for tonight's game against Ottawa at Consol Energy Center.
Malkin lone representative for Pens at All-Star Game
Although the Penguins were disappointed James Neal didn't get the nod centers Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal, and defenseman Kris Letang would have been candidates had they not been currently injured.
Senators-Penguins Preview
Sidney Crosby's prolonged absence after returning for eight games seemed to cast a dark cloud over the Pittsburgh Penguins' season, but their captain's status is far from their only concern.
Jordan Staal and James Neal are the latest Penguins to suffer long-term injuries, leaving Pittsburgh with a tough hill to climb as it tries to avoid its first five-game losing streak...
