The contract kicks in next season and has an average annual value of $600,000.
Jeff Zatkoff had never played an NHL game before this season.
He now has eight under his belt, and a new two-year contract with the Penguins.
Zatkoff, who has emerged to provide stability in goal behind starter Marc-Andre Fleury, has agreed to a two-year deal that will count $600,000 annually against the salary cap starting next season. The overall value of the deal is $1.2 million...

Defenseman Kris Letang had surgery last week to treat an elbow infection, and the Penguins expect him to return after the NHL's three-day Christmas break.
Letang has not been placed on the long-term injured reserve list, which would force him to miss at least 10 games and 24 days.
Letang had a medical procedure to clean an open wound that appeared after the Penguins won at home...

Throughout the 2013-2014 NHL season, I’ll be posting player features each Friday. This week, we’re going to take a look at Brandon Sutter.
It can’t come as a surprise that, after the week he’s had, Brandon Sutter is this week’s feature. Each (healthy) Penguin is utilizing their time to...
Coming into the season, the story was whether or not Jeff Zatkoff would even be able to hold the fort until Tomas Vokoun came back from injury. Retirement talks from Vokoun and six straight wins from Zatkoff has ended all of that. He inked a two year extension for the Penguins reportedly worth $600,000 per…
One would think that having premium seats on the glass for Wednesday’s New York Rangers-Pittsburgh Penguins tilt at Madison Square Garden would inspire even the most underwhelmed and difficult-to-impress attendee to at least, you know, turn and face the action occurring directly in front of them. But not this young Rangers “fan.” Look at how […]The post Not impressed: Kid...
One of the great parts of HBO's 24/7: Road to the Winter Classic series is that it captures so much of the on-ice conversations fans are so rarely privy to.
The second episode of this year's edition of the popular show granted one of the more candid conversations it's ever gotten a hold of.
In a very chippy game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs...
Sidney Crosby scored his 20th goal of the season Saturday, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins win a season-high seventh straight game with a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.
The Penguins led 4-1 late in the second period and had to hold off the Flames for their 10th straight win at home and 12th victory in their last 13 games.
Crosby, who had a goal and two assists, extended his...
The Flames put up a hell of fight. But it wasn't enough.
The Penguins, playing in their final home regular season game of 2013 , held on to extend their winning streak to seven games, and their home winning streak to 10 straight.
Again, playing with one basic NHL line, the Pens found a way. Goals from Harry Z, James Neal, Crosby, and Dupuis were just enough.
from Craig Custance of ESPN,
It's not easy for a defenseman to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year. Just ask the Minnesota Wild's Jonas Brodin, who wasn't even a finalist last season.
However, what Olli Maatta and the Pittsburgh Penguins are doing right now, a six-game winning streak with a defensive group decimated by injury, is the kind...
The Pittsburgh Penguins will spend much of the upcoming holiday season on the road, but they'd like to bring their lengthy winning streak with them.
The short-handed Penguins try to make it seven straight victories overall and 10 in a row at home Saturday against a Calgary Flames team they haven't lost to since Sidney Crosby's rookie season.
Sometimes going streaking is ugly. Certainly wasn’t the best game they’ve played but the Penguins extended their win streak to seven games and still haven’t lost to the Flames since 2005. As a bonus to that, no one got seriously hurt. Matt Niskanen and Olli Maatta both had times where they left the ice and…
