With Ray Shero making Draft Day trades like he was playing NHL 2012 GM Mode on Rookie, watching the newest Penguins shake Mario Lemieux’s hand just didn’t seem that great. Trading Jordan Staal to the Hurricanes got the Pens a second first-round pick that had the Pens drafting eighth – the highest they’ve drafted since taking Staal back in 2006. With their first pick of Round 1, the Pens took Derrick Pouliot, an offensive defenseman out of Portland of the WHL. And with their original No. 22 pick, the Pens picked up another defenseman, two-way guy Olli Maatta from the London Knights. If you thought the Pens’ defense corps was deep before the draft, you better know how to swim before you head for the diving board. With two more blue liners in the system, it could mean Shero isn’t done wheeling and dealing D-men. Hopefully Shero has some forwards on his draft board because they don’t have room for many more D-men. Here’s a look at the two newest Pens. They should have seven more teammat...

Jordan Staal rejects Ray Shero & his 10-year offer

It looks like Ray Shero may have been blowing smoke a few days ago when he said he wasn’t trading Jordan Staal. That or Staal has one hell of a poker face because according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, he turned down a 10-year offer the Penguins made him. Breaking news: Hearing Jordan Staal turned down 10-yr mega offer from PIT. Has indicated to PIT he doesn’t plan on signingâ€...

A farewell of Zbynek Michalek

In the summer of 2010, Shero was all about the Pens' blue line.  He signed Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek to lengthy deals.  And now only Paul Martin remains.  Michalek is gone. His 2010-2011 season made Shero look like a genius.  From even the first preseason game, we all could see that Michalek's size alone was something the Pens' blue line needed. ...

Penguins pleased after busy, successful draft

The Pittsburgh Penguins said goodbye to one of their Big Three when they traded center Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes during the first round of the NHL draft Friday. General manager Ray Shero, however, doesn't expect it will take long to find a replacement. The Penguins acquired young center Brandon Sutter as part of the deal to ship Staal to Carolina. They also sent...

Pittsburgh Penguins Should Trade Jordan Staal to Carolina Hurricanes Now

The Pittsburgh Penguins offered Jordan Staal a contract in the 10 year range, according to multiple sources. Staal trade makes 'Canes contenders in East

The Hurricanes traded for Jordan Staal during the 2012 NHL draft, where he will join brother Eric.

Shero’s second day of drafting not too shabby

Roger Goodell should take a page out of the NHL’s book because Gary Bettman’s boys went through six rounds of drafting about as fast as an NFL fantasy draft. It. Was. Awesome. After the Day 1 moves Ray Shero made, it was hard to think Day 2 would be anywhere near as exciting. Exciting: not so much. But Shero was impressive with his picks. His first two were a little questionable...

Jordan Staal vs Brandon Sutter

The Pittsburgh Penguins made the biggest noise at the NHL entry draft yesterday trading Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes for Brandon Sutter, the 8th overall pick which they used to draft defenseman Derrick Pouliot and defense prospect Brian Dumoulin. Shero goes nuts on Draft Day, trades Staal & Michalek

Ray Shero treated Jordan Staal and Zbynek Michalek like cancer patients last night because both had a wish to leave the Penguins and Shero made it happen, and the Pens fans at CONSOL for the first round of the NHL Draft loved it. A half hour into the draft, Shero made the biggest move of the night by trading Staal to Carolina for the No. 8 pick, C Brandon Sutter and D Brian Dumoulin...

Pittsburgh Penguins deal Jordan Staal to Carolina Hurricanes

June 22, 2012 will be a day that NHL player Jordan Staal will never forget. The Latest Talk On Suter And Yandle

from Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly, A source told CSNPhilly.com early Saturday morning that Penguins general manager Ray Shero is working hard to get Suter’s rights from Nashville.
