Center Mathieu Perreault signed a two-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals worth $2.1 million, the Washington Post reported Thursday. Perrault, 24, earned a place on the Capitals' roster out of training camp last season and had 16 goals and 14 assists in 64 regular-season games this past season. However, he was not in uniform for most of the postseason. He said he's been told he will play a more prominent role this coming season. "They told me I was part of the elite forwards on the team," Perreault told the Post. "They see me on top lines and they think I can do good things for them, so I'm excited for next year. A new coach coming in hopefully I'll get a little more ice time than I did last year."
