Here’s a question to ponder: How many times in the last year has Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said the name “Iginla” or any variation of that? Now Boston winger Jarome Iginla had been something of a white whale for Chiarelli and the Bruins beginning with last year’s trade deadline fiasco and culminating with signing the unrestricted free agent this past summer. Add in the fact that the Bruins had to go through Iginla and the Pittsburgh Penguins in last year’s Eastern Conference finals, and you start to realize that Chiarelli has become quite familiar with the future Hall of Famer in the last year. Chiarelli said Tuesday on Sportsnet’s “Hockey Central at Noon” that he kept a close on Iginla down the stretch and into last year’s playoffs as well. Iginla scored five goals and had 11 assists in 13 games after being acquired from Calgary and posted 4-8-12 totals in the Penguins’ first two rounds. Iginla went cold in the conference finals, however, as he was held pointles...

Johnny Boychuk Returns To Bruins Practice In Colorado

Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk was on the ice Thursday afternoon in Denver for the team’s optional practice, which means he could be nearing a return to game action. Thursday marked the first time Boychuk has practiced since suffering a lower-body injury on Saturday against Carolina. After initially saying he was OK following that game, Boychuk ended up missing games Monday...

Bruins Working To Find ‘Delicate Balance’ When Resting Players

The Boston Bruins are in a very enviable spot. They’re playing their best hockey of the season with the playoffs right around the corner, and they also have a pretty sizable lead in their division. That should allow the Bruins to make some important lineup decisions down the stretch. That should likely include making the call to rest various players for some of the remaining regular...

Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Johnny Boychuk Still Out As Bruins Take On Colorado

Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk is close to making a return, but he’s not there quite yet apparently. Boston head coach Claude Julien wouldn’t rule out the possibility Friday afternoon that Boychuk could return against the Colorado Avalanche. However, Boychuk’s lower-body injury will keep him out at least one more game. Boychuk won’t be in the lineup as the B’s...

Bruins’ Difficult Schedule About To Get Even Tougher

The Boston Bruins entered the month of March knowing that they would have to play 17 games in 30 days (they’re off March 31), which meant they would get one heckuva test. They’ve passed that test so far, as the B’s have won 10 of their 11 games in March. However, the 10-game winning streak has come at the hands of teams that aren’t exactly world-beaters. That’s not to take...

Bruins’ Third Line Impresses Once Again In Win Over Devils (Video)

All four lines are rolling right now for the Boston Bruins, as the team has outscored its opponents 40-14 during their 10-game win streak. The depth they boast even has Jack Edwards and Andy...

The Milan Lucic vs. Ryane Clowe Fight Last Night Was One For The Ages

A.B. Last night, Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins and Ryane Clowe of the New Jersey Devils had one of the best fights I have seen in a while. It wasn’t a great fight because there was a mismatch, tons of blood or a dramatic knockout. In fact the opposite is true. It was an awesome fight because it was evenly matched, featured a ton of punches yet wasn’t particularly violent or...

Bruins make it ten straight in 4-2 win over Devils

The Bruins apparently have decided they won’t be losing any more games. The Bruins matched their longest winning streak in three years by notching their 10th win in a row in a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils in which they never trailed. In fact it’s been 17 periods since the Bruins trailed in a game back on March 9 against the Florida Panthers, and the Bruins have now...
