On every team there are those players for whom fans love to root. Often times they are the fighters or tough guys on the ice. They are the ones most involved in the community. They are the ones who show a commitment to the organization or are hometown heroes. Peter Mueller is none of these things, but every Avalanche fan is rooting for this guy. Avs’ fans love Cody McCleod, have a new fan favorite in Shane O’Brien and will never lose a place in their hearts for Ian Laperriere and Adam Foote. But Peter Mueller is a completely different story, one that deals with the NHL’s biggest problem: concussions. Peter Mueller was a breakout player for the Phoenix Coyotes in his rookie season. In 2007-2008, he played 81 games and notched 56 points. From there he had two less productive seasons in Phoenix before being traded to the Avalanche at the end of the 2010 season. Mueller suffered his first concussion in his stretch with Phoenix. On arriving in Colorado, Mueller scored 20 points, nine of ...

Mueller makes big return from concussion

Peter Mueller has been dealing with concussion issues for most of the past two seasons. Less than a week after returning to action with the Colorado Avalanche, he had a game he won't soon forget. The right wing scored his first two goals of the season and had an assist in Colorado's 4-3 overtime win over Florida last Wednesday. "It was almost somewhat surreal what...

Colorado Avalanche: An All-Star In The Making

The Colorado Avalanche finished in the penultimate spot in the final 2010-2011 regular season standings. The silver lining of the Avs' forgettable finish was the fact that they claimed the second overall draft pick in the draft lottery. There were many talented young prospects in the 2011 NHL Draft, including forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Gabriel Landeskog, Jonathan Huberdeau...

Aaron Musick: Avs mild vs. Wild

Alright, new plan: the Colorado Avalanche are moving to the East. With their 3-2 loss the Avs are 2-10 against their own division and 10-2 against the Eastern Conference. Playing without their young forwards Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly, the Avs lost their offensive spark and fell to the Wild. For the entire night, the Avs were determined: they did not like the puck...

Good sign: Mueller's ice time, shots increase

Having played only nine games this season, including only six since October, Peter Mueller is not leading the Avalanche in any season statistics.

Avalanche’s Weekend Lacks Hollywood Ending

In two games in which the Avalanche outshot their opponent 76 to 44, the Avalanche were only able to get two points. On Saturday, the Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 after giving up the first goal to a red hot Kings’ team. On Sunday night, the Avalanche lost to the Anaheim Ducks, 3-2, in a wild game where the Avs scored the last two goals in the last five minutes of theâ...

Manchester City elects not to appeal Mario Balotelli's four-match ban for Scott Parker stamp (Goal.com)

The Premier League leaders did not meet Wednesday's deadline to contest the FA's decision to punish the Italian for the incident during Sunday's 3-2 win over Tottenham

T.J. Galiardi: The Comeback Kid

T.J. Galiardi is finally feeling like himself again. I say that because Galiardi went on an intense summer diet where he ate eight meals a day and gained 20 poinfs of muscle of muscle. He exercised like crazy and put in a ton off-season work. Unfortunately for the 23 year old, the new body was not paying off earlier in the season, but he is not one of the teams hardest working forwards...

Manchester City's Mario Balotelli Stomps On Scott Parker's Head (Video)

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has been a rather amusing character during his recent stint with the club. However, there was nothing amusing during a recent match between Manchester City and Tottenham, when Mario stomps on the head of Scott Parker of Tottenham: After this stomping incident, Balotelli was banned from Manchester City's next four matches.

Ducks Hold Off Colorado 3-2

The last time Colorado came to town, it wasn't pretty. Sure, Jean-Sebastien Giguere was warmly welcomed back to the Honda Center, but was it necessary to give the Avalanche a 4-2 win as well? Three weeks later, and much has changed. Like the Ducks record of late - 8-0-1 in their last nine games, a vast reversal of how they were doing prior to the new year. Maybe those New...

Mario Balotelli Banned Four Games for Kicking Scott Parker in Head (Video)

Mario Balotelli will miss Manchester City's next four games, starting with Wednesday's Carling Cup semifinal against Liverpool. The club accepted a charge of violent conduct made against him by the FA, according to the Daily Mail. Balotelli kicked Tottenham's Scott Parker in the head during Sunday's meeting, but was not penalized during the game. Referee Howard Webb...

Wild-Avalanche Preview

If there's a regulation winner Tuesday night between the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild, that team will go into the All-Star break holding one of the Western Conference's playoff spots. The Wild will be trying to avoid a franchise-record 12th straight road loss when they take on the Northwest Division rival Avalanche. Colorado (26-22-2) has 54 points to hold...

The Blues coach has conceded the Italian’s clash with the Spurs midfielder ‘doesn’t look good’ in slow motion, but bemoans the FA’s disciplinary panels lack of consistency

Post-game Avs-Ducks: Day late, dollar short

Paul Berserbach, Orange County Register This was supposed to be posted last night, but since I had no internet access at the hotel in Anaheim (I’ll leave out the name – this time) I couldn’t post it until tonight. ANAHEIM – Tough loss tonight for the Burgundy and Blue, but these things happen. What a weird loss, though; the Avs played nearly perfect possession...
