You would think that the defending Stanley Cup champions wouldn't allow a third-string, rookie goalie on a team that has a history of collapsing in the playoffs shut them down, but Caps goalie Braden Holtby did exactly that--neutralizing Boston's offense all series. And when the B's couldn't get the puck in the net, they tried to get in Holtby's head, like when Rich Peverley went to slash him in the 2nd period of last night's game 7. But that failed too as Holtby stared down Peverley like a boss, not moving an inch. How? Well, just like another young up and comer, the force is strong with this one.

  • Baa Ha Ha Ha Ha.... force is strong with this one what the Rangers do to "THIS ONE"... B's lost because they took bad angle shots and too many extra passes, not because of Holtby..the defense blocked more shots than he're going to see just how forgetful the Caps are after the Rangers sweep them're funny though.

Bruins center Rich Peverley fakes goalie chop, Caps win in OT

Bruins center Rich Peverley battles with Caps goalie Braden Holtby. And then attempts to scare. Didn't work, Joel Ward scored the OT game winner. Every time you check your email, think -- gotta... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

The Washington Capitals advance — much to everyone’s surprise

How do you spell relief?  D-E-F-E–N-S-E.  The Washington Capitals showed their non-believers that tough-minded defensive hockey, coupled with taking the punishment associated with hanging out in front of the net can and will win hockey games.  And, perhaps they showed that Coach Dale Hunter’s ‘system’ can work not only at the NHL level, but in the Stanley Cup playoffs...

Opponent’s scouting report: Braden Holtby

As luck would have it, the Rangers drew the Caps in the second round and they were the only team in the Eastern Conference that didn’t get a goalie scouting report prior to the start of the second season.  Luckier still, at the time I was previewing the potential goaltending matchups the Rangers might run into, Braden Holtby was the third option in goal for the Caps, and not even...

Braden Holtby Joins List of Bruins Villains That Fans Will Remember Until End of Time (Video)

Braden Holtby. Braden Holtby? Braden Holtby! The Capitals netminder did everything that he needed to pull of the first-round upset, sending the defending Stanley Cup champions home after a shocking, stunning overtime loss at the TD Garden. Washington prevailed in Game 7, as Joel Ward snuck one past Tim Thomas, sending the Caps through to the next round and making sure Holtby goes...

Key to Game 7 Is Reminding Braden Holtby He's Playing Most Important Game of His Life (Video)

Nervous about another Game 7? Well, imagine how the players feel. There's always drama heading into the deciding and final game of a series, although hopefully the Bruins can lean on their experience in these situations for finding a way to win. The Capitals, on the other hand, are in mostly uncharted waters, especially their 22-year-old rookie goaltender, Braden Holtby. NESN...

Holtby Won't Be Fazed By Hostile MSG

Ben Raby at talked to Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby about playing in what should be a very hostile environment this afternoon at MSG..."It doesn't bother me that much," Holtby said. "That's what everyone pays the money for is to have their two cents. It's good. It's not motivation, but it's definitely fun... If someone was...

GARTH: Drop Kicked

On a team loaded with uber-star game-changers like Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom and Green, Braden Holtby and Joel Ward will will live on forever in Capitals lore as the tomen who applid the kill shot to the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of their first round match-up. Winning on the road in a hotile barn Boston makes the feat all th more impressive. thnks,

Capitals Ready For Round 2

from Tarik El-Bashir of the Washington Post, If there was one word that summed up Washington’s mood it was confidence — something that hasn’t always been the team’s hallmark this season. After eliminating the defending Stanley Cup champions, however, it’s in no short supply these days. “When I got called up, [the confidence] was building,” goalie Braden Holtby said...

Eastern Conference Semifinal Preview: Rangers vs Capitals

Once again, I picked both of these teams to lose in the opening round.  The Rangers were able to finally finish off the Senators in 7 (I was almost a genius picking the Sens in 7) and the Capitals outlasted the Bruins in 7 games as well.  It’s funny, last year I caught some flak for picking the Bruins to lose every series.  So this year, I pick them to win…and they lose....

Top 10 takeaways from the Capitals eliminating the Bruins

10) Calling this the closest best of seven series is accurate, but that would involve knowing the second closest9) As the finale showed, home ice advantage is very, um, important or something8) Tim Thomas went from world-beating to old in an awful hurry7) Boston Fan showed their class, intelligence and appreciation for a great season and playoff series by showering the ice with garbage6...

Game Seven Open Thread

Tonight is the first of three Game Seven’s in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, as the Bruins are hosting the Capitals in a do or die for both teams. Game time is 7:30 on NBCSN. I’d rather the Bruins win this series. Much rather face Philly than Washington. Braden Holtby scares me. Other local teams in action are the Knicks vs. Clippers at 8pm, Mets vs. Marlins at 7:10pm...

Round 2 Begins

The West was won long before the East was decided.  This is why Nashville (who had been sitting a week) and Phoenix were out of the gate first in round two.  Is it any surprise that the game went to overtime?  If you are playing against Phoenix, better get your cardio and endurance up because 60 minutes are not enough to decide things.  Seeing as the East had to go the distance...
