(Via NHL.com) On Thursday morning, Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren officially confirmed what had been speculated for months. The team has elected to use one of their compliance buyouts on veteran forward Danny Briere and bring his six-year tenure with the club to an end. Signed to an eight-year, $52 million contract in the summer of 2007, Briere was a massive contributor to the Flyers turnaround from worst in the league in 2006, to Stanley Cup contenders. In his time in Philadelphia, he had 128 regular season goals and 159 assists, but the Quebec native cemented himself as a Flyers legend because of his postseason play. In 2010, he set a Flyers record for most points scored in a postseason with 30, as he helped lead Philadelphia to the Stanley Cup finals against the Chicago Blackhawks.
