With six Chicago Blackhawks players in action at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, Philipp Kurashev was the latest addition to the highlight reel. Coming off his best NHL season to date, the 24-year-old has two assists in three games for his native Switzerland. And on Monday against Czechia, Kurashev scored a nifty shootout goal to help the Swiss notch a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Kevin Fiala scored in the first period to put Switzerland ahead, but Matej Stransky responded with a goal for Czechia in the middle frame. A scoreless third period led to a shootout, where Kurashev stepped up for his home country.
Neither side scored in the first round before Fiala and Stransky lit the lamp for their respective countries in the second round. The Swiss then called on Kurashev, who stickhandled from left to right and fired a wrist shot past Lukas Dostal.

The Blackhawks' breakout forward's marker proved decisive as neither side scored for the rest of the shootout.
Kurashev and Switzerland are back in action against Great Britain on Wednesday at 1:20 PM CT. Blackhawks teammate Connor Bedard lit up the Brits for two goals in Canada's IIHF Worlds opener on May 11, and Kurashev will be looking to follow suit.
