The Blackhawks shot puck after puck at Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith and then they shot some more. The barrage of rubber at one of the NHL's hottest goaltenders resulted in the Hawks' fourth consecutive victory, this one a 5-4 thriller over the Coyotes in a shootout Thursday night at the United Center. The Hawks fired 52 shots at Smith in regulation and overtime and Brandon Pirri made them count when the rookie center scored the winner in the shootout before a crowd of 21,762. Pirri, Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa scored in regulation to support goalie Corey Crawford. Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook each added two assists to help the Hawks improve to 13-2-4 on the season. "We tried to put so many pucks at their goalie," Hossa said. "He was unreal — over 50 shots. I don't remember many games like that. They proved they're a good hockey team, but we found a way to win." Michael Stone had two goals, Shane Doan a goal and an assist and Lauri Korpikoski one score, but it wasn't enough. The Coyotes lost for just the second time in their last nine games and the first time in six trips here over a three-season span, including playoffs. "You have to give him credit — he stopped (48)," Pirri said. "We just tried putting pressure on him. It had to be a greasy goal to get one by him. "They had a little streak going here and we don't like losing to anyone. We broke the streak and we're just trying to keep it rolling." Saad started things quickly as he scored on the first shot of the game. The winger scooped up a rebound of a Kane shot, was denied on his first attempt and flipped his second over Smith into the top of the net. Just less than four minutes later, Sharp made it 2-0 with the Hawks on the power play. The winger assumed his usual spot at the point during a man advantage and sent a long shot past Smith, who was screened by Andrew Shaw on the play. After the Coyotes rallied to tie it, Hossa put the Hawks ahead when he rifled a shot off Smith's mask and pounced on the rebound laying in the crease and delivered into the back of the net on the goalie's stick side.
