Amidst the news of a new ice hockey rink in the Nashville community, the Nashville Predators made time to announce the re-signing of defenseman Joe Piskula to a one-year, two-way deal worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $135,000 at the NHL level. Last season, Piskula was acquired in a trade with the Calgary Flames in exchange for Brian McGrattan. Piskula, 28, never had the opportunity to play in the NHL with the Predators, but spent his time with the Milwaukee Admirals in the American League. In 23 games, he posted four points (1g, 3a) and was scoreless in all four playoff games. Before being re-signed, Piskula was set to become an unrestricted free agent July 5.  The Antigo, Wisconsin native played college hockey at the University of Wisconsin from 2004-07 and won a national championship in 2006. Since then, Piskula has been in the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames and now-Predators organizations in his seven year professional career.
