Pittsburgh Penguins (19-8-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (15-11-1) ROOT, SNET-O, RDS - 7:00 pm/et Air Canada Centre - Toronto, ON The last Pens/Leafs game from a few days ago was an entertaining contest, except for the Malkin injury of course. The Pens needed a shootout to triumph over the Leafs last time. What will happen tonight with the Pens looking to win seven in-a-row? Season Series: 1-1-0 Last meeting that counted: March 9, 2013. Penguins won 5-4 [SO]. What we said in our recap: Right before Sidney Crosby suffered his concussion, he was undoubtedly playing the best hockey we've ever seen him play. Then he was gone from the game for the better part of two years. It's taken Crosby 25 games to get back to where he was. There were countless "Jesus, did you see what Crosby just did" moments in this game. There was just something about his performance in this one that reminded us of the pre-concussion Sid. What's scary is...

Visual WOWY representation of Jay McClement’s poor possession play

A few people didn’t like that I suggested that Jay McClement was a bad player in yesterday’s Mikhail Grabovski post so I thought I would provide a visual representation of McClement’s  mediocrity in the form of 5v5 Zone Start adjusted CF% WOWY charts for each of the past 6 seasons (this season included). Let’s start with [...]The post Visual WOWY representation of Jay McClement’s...

Pascal Dupuis scored two of Pittsburgh's three goals in the third period, and the Penguins stormed back to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-1, on Thursday night and win their seventh game in a row. Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves for Pittsburgh (20-8), which defeated the Maple Leafs, 5-4, in a shootout in Toronto five days earlier. Craig Adams sealed this win by scoring into...

If the answer is yes, check out Sidney Crosby's pass to Pascal Dupuis tonight.

Rangers-Penguins Preview

While many expected a tight race in the Atlantic Division, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins appear to be head and shoulders above the competition. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise to the New York Rangers. Hoping to stay unbeaten in March, Pittsburgh tries for a seventh consecutive victory over New York as these division rivals square off in a matinee showdown...

Ducks acquire David Steckel from Toronto

The Ducks have acquired forward David Steckel from the Toronto Maple Leafs for minor leaguer Ryan Lasch and a seventh-round draft pick in 2014. In Steckel, the Ducks acquired a player that teams with championship dreams often try to land approaching the NHL trading deadline. Steckel is a face-off specialist. In short, the acquisition cost was comparatively low to add a piece to...

In case you forgot about how good Sidney Crosby was and is, he’s done plenty this season to remind you of that fact. The NHL’s leading scorer and his team welcome the Bruins to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night in what could very easily end up a playoff matchup in the not-too-distant future. The Penguins are leading the Atlantic and the Bruins are right in the hunt for the Northeast...

Toronto Maple Leafs: Suffering three straight losses

When I heard that the Toronto Maple Leafs lost a thriller to Pittsburgh in a shoot out, I was quite pleased that they got at least one point.  After all, their next opponent would be the Winnipeg Jets.  A team that has been struggling lately. I thought for sure that Leafs would get an easy two points off the Jets.  Wrong. At a time where I didn’t want Winnipeg’s goalie, Ondrej...

Penguins-Maple Leafs Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins have prevailed in a number of close games during their season-high win streak, including last weekend's visit to the Toronto Maple Leafs. With Evgeni Malkin likely out for a third straight game, the Penguins will try to get past the slumping Maple Leafs again and earn a seventh consecutive victory Thursday night. Pittsburgh (19-8-0) has won by one goal...

‘Trader’ Ray

from Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Triibune-Review, At some point late in the Penguins' thrilling victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, it struck me: Ray Shero is the best trader in the NHL. What's more, he is the best trader in Penguins history — better than Craig Patrick. Even before Brandon Sutter's dramatic game-winner, a quick glance at the Penguins...

Maple Leafs, Capitals make trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Kevin Marshall from the Washington Capitals for forward Nicolas Deschamps. Marshall played in 52 games with the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears this season. He had a goal and four assists with 77 penalty minutes. The 24-year-old Marshall was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round in 2007. Marshall played...

Bruins Blow Another Early Lead, Fall To Penguins. Should You Be Worried?

Pittsburgh is a city that equals Boston in tougness, grit, and strength. It reflects in the rink. For the first time this season the Bruins go up against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a top heavy team with elite NHL star power. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are the centerpoint of the team and among the players that represent the league. Ask a band wagon fan or a "casual"...
