Pittsburgh Penguins (5-3-0) @ Washington Capitals (2-5-1)
NBC, TSN2 - 12:30 pm/et
Verizon Center - Washington, DC
"Crosby versus Ovechkin" may no longer have the same luster as it once did, but games against the Capitals are still fun.
Tomas Vokoun will start against his former team. Apparently there's some other sporting event on today too....
Might as well get it our of the way now so we're all prepared for it:
Still one of the most annoying things on earth.
Season Series: 0-0-0
Last meeting that counted: January 22, 2012. Penguins won 4-3 [SO].
What we said in our recap:
It is not something you see often. Two players so locked in with each other that they don't even have to look for one another. They just know.
The chemistry between James Neal and Evgeni Malkin is something worth gushing over.
The game against the Caps was just another example of the pairing in action. They both assisted on each other goals, and frankly almost everytime they were on the ice they were making **** happen.
Nothing really else needs to be said at this point.
Hard to believe the last Pens/Caps game was over a year ago...

What they're saying:
If George McPhee isn’t exploring the idea of somehow getting rid of Alex Ovechkin, he should be. Ovechkin scored a goal tonight, yes, but has yet to score and even-strength goal in seven games and his defense is deteriorating by the game. On Toronto’s tying goal, he left the point man uncovered and allowed the pass that set up the goal to go through. Then, late in the game, he skated circles (literally: http://ovi.ytmnd.com/) around the entire team, trying to do it all himself. And he’s owed upwards of $9.5 million against the salary cap, which is coming down, into the next decade. Ugh.
The phrase "If George McPhee isn't exploring the idea of somehow getting rid of Alex Ovechkin, he should be" would have seemed downright insane in 2009. Now it just seems like an overreaction.

Ovechkin's linemates are Beagle and Crabb? Has he been hanging out at the zoo? No wonder he's struggling. That line makes Sid playing with Dupuis and Malkin playing with [insert-today's-winger-here] look amazing in comparison.
