Marc-Andre Fleury and Tomas Vokoun now officially know who will be coaching them for the 2013-14 season. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that former goaltender development coach Mike Bales has been promoted to the team’s goaltending coach. The position became open when Gilles Meloche resigned in the offseason. Bales, 42, played for the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators in his playing career before moving on to leagues in other countries. He helped Brad Thiessen and Jeff Zatkoff form into one of the top goaltending tandems in the AHL last season. He hopes that he can do the same for Fleury and Vokoun this season in the NHL.
