The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the re-signing of forward Arron Asham to a one-year, $775,000 deal. Asham, 33, performed well enough in the playoffs to make up for a mostly lost regular season. The Canadian played just 44 games, missing most of the season due to injury. He recorded five goals, 11 points and 46 PIMs in the regular season, but scored three times and added an assist and just one penalty in the team’s post-season series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. I really liked what Asham brought to the table, and was disappointed when I heard the team did not consider him a priority this June. Word is, talks broke off with forward Mike Rupp, allowing the Pens to focus on and re-sign Asham, at Rupp’s expense. In other news, Jaromir Jagr was supposed to announce his plans today as to where he will be playing this coming season. He was to fly into Pittsburgh and – I assume – speak with GM Ray Shero.
