The Pittsburgh Penguins have had a lot of discussions about their defensive organizational depth as of late. One player that won’t be heading out of the Pens organization anytime soon is defenseman Ben Lovejoy. Lovejoy, who is 26 years old, was signed to a three year, two-way contract extension today, valued at $525,000 per year. Although the majority of his career to date has been in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Penguins, Lovejoy played a dozen games with the Penguins in the 2009-10 season, and two games with Pittsburgh in 2008-09′. In those three games, he cumulatively had 3 points with a plus-8 rating. He is expected by many to be part of the Pittsburgh Penguins defensive corp for a full season in the upcoming 2010-11 season.
