The Pittsburgh Penguins made a bold move Friday while the city hosted the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by sending C Jordan Staal to Carolina in exchange for the eighth overall pick, C Brandon Sutter and D Brian Dumoulin.  Penguins GM Ray Shero offered Staal a reported 10-year deal worth $60 million, but when he turned it down the Penguins made their move.   Staal, 23, will head to the Hurricanes and play alongside his brother, Eric.  He finished last season with 50 points in 63 games and had nine points in the Penguins opening round playoff loss to the Flyers. Sutter was the Cane's brightest young star and had signed a three-year, $6.2 million extension in July 2011 with the team.  Penguins will also acquire Dumoulin and the eighth overall pick which the Penguins used to select Portland Winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot.

Jordan Staal Traded to the Hurricanes

Here we are, holding up the tail in regards to the trade.  Are we the last blog on the planet to mention it?  It sure is possible. I don’t really want to talk about the return.  I don’t want to talk about how Jordan Staal was sooooo dreamy.  I don’t want to talk about puck [...]

Jordan Staal vs Brandon Sutter

Essentially this trade comes down to the Penguins trading their 3rd line center Jordan Staal, who wants to be a first or second...

Jordan Staal uses free agency to his advantage

It's not quite like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all getting together for a so-called "summit" to decide that they, all unrestricted free agents in the same year, wanted to play together in Miami. But the concept is somewhat similar when Jordan Staal rejected a 10-year contract offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins last week because, in part, it meant the...
