Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently spoke to Penguins forward Craig Adams who also serves as the team's NHLPA representitive. Adams spoke of the CBA negotiations and, despite the owner's initial bid, remains positive about a future deal.

Penguins forward Craig Adams acknowledged Monday that the NHL is "asking for huge concessions" in early talks about a new collective bargaining agreement, but he is far from buying into any hysteria that the 2012-13 season is in jeopardy.

"I'm always a fairly optimistic guy," Adams said. "I know there's a long way to go. Things are moving along slowly. We're still hopeful we can get something done."

"It's one proposal. It's their opening bid," Adams said. "We're taking some time to go through it. We've asked for more information. You don't want to overreact or act emotionally."

  • It's good to see, at the very least, players not overreacting to the owner's initial bid like some members of the media and NHL world were. I'm sure the players opening bid will be ridiculous to the owners, too. It's called negotiating and working towards a compromise. I'm encouraged because of the constant meetings and dialouge. There's unseen progress being made, which is never a bad thing.

Here are the NHLPA reps attending today's meetings in New York City.
