All Things Avs:
Chuck Myers/MCT
WASHINGTON – Now that was a hockey game. Goals, great saves, big hits, bad blood, fights – it was all there tonight here in DC.
Avs win it, thanks to timely goals and a bend-but-don’t-break defense, backboned with Craig Anderson.
It’s real late and I need to get some ambien induced Zs, but overall I’d sum up the game as one where the Avs played a little harder and a little smarter than the Caps. Whereas the Avs made the simple plays, the Caps over-thought things.
Alex Ovechkin is an incredible player, but there’s still the element of simplicity missing from his game. He went 1-on-1 too often tonight, especially in the clutch moments. He’s done that too much in the playoffs in his career too. He did that in the Olympics for Russia. Teammates stand around and watch him at times. But the Caps are going to win plenty of games still.
So will the Avs probably. They’ve got 16 of the next 21 at home. But that isn’t alway...
