There is an old adage that things are never as good or as bad as they seem at a given time. It would definitely apply to the Predators' two-win road trip last weekend as well as last night's no-show at Bridgestone Arena.

The team has had issues in all there games played this season but winning often masks underlying problems. Barry Trotz indicated that last night's game may help him get everyone's attention and I'm sure it will.

To a man, the team is not satisfied with the issues that were present in the ugly loss to Phoenix last night with Shea Weber, Ryan Suter, and Barry Trotz all acknowledging that the team's play was not acceptable.

Fortunately, the team will be back at it on Saturday at 7 p.m. with another home game against New Jersey with a chance to redeem themselves. Everyone is waiting to see what the "real" Predator team will look like as the season develops.

Here is our Morning After round-up, our game story on Brian McGrattan, and postgame video with Barry Trotz.

In Pred Nation...

Before last night's game, Marty Erat was placed on injured reserve.

Josh Cooper had a quick conversation with Brian McGrattan before last night's game.

J.R. Lind has a great piece about the "old" being "new" again on opening day at the Bridgestone Arena.

Dirk Hoag serves his Friday breakfast links that includes the Mike Fisher 400 Club video that was filmed over the summer.

Hockey's Future previews the talent laden Milwaukee Admirals.

The Predators and a bunch of others honored Vince Gill yesterday at the kick-off of CMA Week.

There is a new parody account in Predland @FakeLindback. I wonder what the real Lindback thinks of this.

Shanny TV...

Players have really shaped up the last few days to the point where we may have to remove "Shanny TV" as a daily feature. At least we had a post from Down Goes Brown that seems to fit he bill with a list of complaints about Brendan Shanahan.

Around the NHL...

The big news yesterday was that Sidney Crosby was cleared for contact. Here's the video of Crosby explaining where he is physically.

The Penguins also announced a two-year extension for Chris Kunitz worth $3.725 million a season.

Ryan Porth had a conversation with Shane Doan on his day off on Wednesday and has a video of the Aaron Asham - Jay Beagle situation from last night.

Tim Connolly's injury appears to be more than day to day.

Adam Proteau is ready to do away with divisions in NHL realignment.

Has Matt Cooke successfully reinvented himself?

Winter Adams has a story about the "Keeper of the Cup."

Jas Faulkner has a few historical notes, from both the past and the present.

Shane Malloy of the Hockey Prospects show guested on NHL Home Ice yesterday.

Interesting odds from @wyshynski: Bodog on whether the ex-goons will file a lawsuit against Don Cherry before Oct. 31: "Yes +200 No -300" Greg also has the story of seven NHL vets living the dream in the minors. Finally, Greg has a round-up of realignment proposals.

Ron MacLean has come to Don Cherry's defense.

Aaron Boogaard pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanour in the death of his brother Derek and admitted to  what his attorney called "an error of judgment" in destroying evidence in the case. He received a stayed six-month sentence, plus probation and community service.

Odds and Ends...

I've never heard of "Glass Beach" in California but this is unintentionally pretty cool.

Blackberry went from being at the top of the world to having it's market share go into a free fall. This week's failings can't help the future outlook.

Dr Pepper is getting attention with its ad campaign for its new "10" drink saying that "It is not for Women."

Verizon announced that they are going to start tracking you web usage. Here's how to opt out.
