This is a quick-ish post, but here is a quick look at some numbers I took a look at after Brett Lebda signed with Toronto. The first thing I noted when Lebda signed was that he's listed as being 5'9. Not exactly truculent sized, and actually it's a height that most NHL GM's don't actively seek out. The next thing I noticed was that Lebda is listed at 195lbs, the same weight as the much taller, and more physical Colby Armstrong, and Jay Rosehill. A friend of mine suggested I compare the Leafs by Pound per Inch to see how they measured up. The list is kind of interesting, in a doesn't really mean too much kind of way, but there are some interesting correlations. As expected, the guys who can hit you through a brick wall have the highest PpI, and the prospects who are not quite NHL ready, and need to put on weight are at the bottom. Most top six guys also seemed to be right even with at a Pound per Inch, and most of the defense and bottom six guys fell between 1.05 PpI and 1.15PpI. I can't speak to the accuracy of the listed height and weight, as I have no idea how often Forecaster would update these numbers. I'm interested in comparing the numbers to other teams, but feel these numbers at least provide some insight into what roles will be asked of players, and whether they are big enough for the NHL.

Here is the Toronto Maple Leafs Pounds per Inch Table.
