Found April 20, 2012 on Rock the Red:
The Washington Capitals were on ice Friday for a practice following their 2-1 win over the Bruins in game four of their playoff series on Thursday night.  Some updates from Arlington as the Caps prepare for game four on Saturday afternoon: Dale Hunter debuted some shiny new lines at the skate.  They were Ovechkin-Backstrom-Laich, Johansson-Aucoin-Semin, Chimera-Perreault-Brouwer, Hendricks-Beagle-Knuble, and Ward-Sjogren-Halpern.  Based on that, it appears as though Joel Ward could be forced out of the lineup when Nicklas Backstrom returns from his suspension Saturday, despite the high level of ice time Ward got on Thursday and his good defensive play.  I guess we'll see, but it does seem curious to me that Keith Aucoin continues to see such an expended role, especially at the expense of some of the team's bigger, more defensively responsible players.  It's unexpected, for sure. Also of note is that goaltender Dany Sabourin was returned to Hershey of the AHL on Friday ...

NESN.com Photochop: Why Is Nicklas Backstrom So Happy?

Nicklas Backstrom has enjoyed happier days than he will on Thursday. That's because the Washington forward will be sitting out Game 4 of the Bruins-Capitals after being suspended one game for cross-checking Rich Peverley at the end of Game 3. Once upon a time, Backstrom basked in the glow of a game-winning goal and looked awfuly happy. Since then, however, he hasn't had much...

The Bruins won't have to deal with the Washington's Nicklas Backstrom on Thursday, but they're not breathing easy. Most of the players agree that the Capitals are still going to be tough at home, and they say they’re more focused on making sure the Bruins themselves are ready to play. Andy Brickley, however, has some ideas about how the B's can take advantage on...

Nicklas Backstrom Suspension Could Be Difference in Bruins-Capitals Series

With the Bruins leading the Capitals two games to one, Boston's first-round series is far from over. Game 4 is fast approaching on Thursday, and it could mean another nail in Washington's coffin. The biggest factor falling the Bruins' way is the suspension of Caps star Nicklas Backstrom. The forward will serve a one-game suspension Thursday after cross-checking Rich Peverley...

Capitals Release Statement on Nicklas Backstrom Suspension, 'Don't Understand' Ruling

The Washington Capitals are confused. The Caps are confused after forward Nicklas Backstrom was suspended for Game 4 of Washington's series with the Bruins after Backstrom was assessed a match penalty at the end of Game 3. Backstrom caught Bruins forward Rich Peverley up high with a cross-check in a postgame scrum, and that was apparently enough for him to have to sit out a game...

Talking, tensions heat up off ice

Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas is using his blocker as a weapon. Nicklas Backstrom, the Washington Capitals No. 1 center who missed half the season with a concussion, had his head targeted. Bruins forwards Milan Lucic is a "crybaby" and, by the way, Boston's game-winning goal in Monday's Game 3 was set up by an offside play. Talk during the two-day break between...

Will Bruins-Capitals Series Go a Full Seven Games?

Despite the absence of Capitals star Nicklas Backstrom, the Bruins could not take advantage in their Game 4 matchup with Washington. Instead, the Caps took a 2-1 decision and evened the series at two games apiece. Now Boston knows the series cannot be decided before a Game 6 on Sunday. With games on back-to-back days, which team moves on to the next round could not only be decided...

Nicklas Backstrom Apologizes for Cross-Checking Rich Peverley, Says 'It Was Stupid on My Part'

Maybe it's because they realized they have awakened a sleeping bear, or maybe they truly are sorry. In any event, handing out apologies seems to be a common theme amongst the Capitals following Game 3 against the Bruins. A day after Karl Alzner apologized to Brad Marchand for an elbow to the head, Nicklas Backstrom apologized for cross-checking Rich Peverley in the face. "...

The Bruins remain down in the nation’s capital for what they hope will be their final visit to Washington this season. Boston currently leads the Capitals 2-1 in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. A win Thursday in D.C. in Game 4 would give the Bruins a chance to close out the series on home ice in Game 5 at the Garden on Saturday. A loss Thursday guarantees a return...

Capitals' Physical Play Could Prove Practice for Possible Bruins-Flyers Series

The Washington Capitals are known as a skill team with finesse weapons like Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green. Nobody would mix them up with a physical team like the Philadelphia Flyers but Washington sure tried to play that role in Game 3 en route to a 4-3 loss. Here are the NHL series prices as they currently stand: Washington Capitals +380 Boston Bruins -450...

Eastern Conference Quarter Finals: Game 4 Bruins at Capitals. BOS Leads Series 2-1

BTW, that's my favorite Capitals logo ever. I'm not sure why they ever got away from that logo or that color scheme. It was different, and thus, was like-able. Now their jerseys and color scheme, much like their hockey team, is just some generic pile of ****. (Almost) every team uses red, white and blue as their colors. I mean, you can just around the NHL and see which team...
