Getty Images Despite an undoubtedly horrendous season for the Nashville Predators this year, there was one player who stood out during their winning ways in the early- to mid-part of the season. Colin Wilson. Though his season was shortened to only 25 games, the 23 year old had his break out season showing his full potential. 25 games into the season on March 9 in his ninth shift of the game, Colin Wilson suffered a shoulder injury, which would later require season ending surgery. Luckily, the Connecticut native will return for training camp this summer. Wilson put up nineteen points (seven goals, twelve assists) and was considered to be the “number one scoring threat” on the Predators’ roster. If Wilson and a few others would have been healthy in the latter part of the season with Filip Forsberg, Nashville would be playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again. But as the saying goes, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. The Predators surely missed him as at the end of the season, as they finished last in Goals For with 2.27 per game and a total of 109. Also, their power play dropped from first in the league to seventeeth with a 17.1% conversion rate. Throughout the season, Wilson was finding the net at the right times, whether it was a hardworking goal from below the goal line or a goal scorers’ goal. His size was being used effectively and his hidden speed was starting to not be so hidden anymore. The first time his speed was shown was in 2010 when he scored a fast break goal against the Minnesota Wild in a 5-0 route. For the first time ever in a Preds’ uniform, his jets were turned on and he blew past the Wild defense to score. Next season, Wilson will have to step up even more, despite his latest shoulder injury. Likely he will be starting the season on the second line, depending on the offseason moves David Poile makes. No matter where Willy is, he will have to score goals on a regular basis to stay on Barry Trotz’s good side. A lot is expected from him next season.
