MONTREAL , QC - JUNE 26: Ryan Ellis poses for a portrait after being selected 11th overall by the Nashville Predators during the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft at the Bell Centre on June 26, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)
The goals came back and so did the Predators. Nashville rallied from a one-goal deficit as Ryan Ellis scored early in the third period for a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday nigh tin front of 17113 at Bridgestone Arena. Ellis beat Evgeni Nabokov low to the pad side on a slap shot for his first goal of the season giving Nashville a 3-2 lead early in the third period. “It was just a great play on the wall by (Matt) Cullen who chipped it up and got it to me” Ellis said. “I think it was two-on-two at the time and it’s tough to beat any (defenseman) in the league so I just put it on net and it went in. It was definitely a big two points for our team.” Nashville (2-3-0) had gone scoreless for six straight periods before rookie Seth Jones scored his first NHL goal early in the second period. Jones scored on a power play giving the Predators a 1-0 lead. The 19-year-old defenseman beat Nabokov on a slap shot from the left faceoff circle. David Legwand and Shea Weber assisted on the goal.
