The Nashville Predators snapped a five-game winning streak when they lost to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night 4-1 at Verizon Center.

Predators starting goaltender, Pekka Rinne got the night off with backup Anders Lindback in goal for Nashville.

While a rookie mistake got the Capitals on the board early in the game, it was Nashville’s lack of effectiveness on the power play that failed to get them back into it.

Alex Ovechkin scored just his third goal in his last 11 games when he got behind Jon Blum at the Predators blue line and was able to skate in all alone on Lindback at 7:42 of the first period.

The Capitals made it 2-0 when Nicklas Backtrom’s warp-around beat Lindback at 15:51 of the opening frame.

The two-goal deficit was too much for the Predators to overcome.

Nashville had five power play opportunities in the game, three of which were in the second period. Despite playing with the man advantage for 10 minutes, Nashville registered only 3 shots on goal and was not able to connect on the power play.

Sergei Kostitsyn scored his fifth goal of the season for Nashville when he got the team on the board at 4:40 of the third period.

The game would not remain a close 2-1 affair for long as Alex Semin and Troy Brouwer added goals for Washington to secure the win for the Capitals on home ice.

Nashville now returns home to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena.
