In Detroit they throw octopi onto the ice but down in Hockeytown South, the Nashville Predators fans apparently feel that throwing catfish onto the ice is an appropriate way of showing their support.

I don't get it myself but hey, what do I know.

Early into the third period of the Predators game 3 matchup with the Phoenix Coyotes a first catfish was hurled onto the ice. One of the linesman grabbed it in a towel and took it off the ice. A few minutes later, following a Predators goal another catfish was given the frozen treatment. This one though was handled by one the comely Predators Ice Girls who grabbed it barehanded and skated off, although not before sassing the Coyotes' goalie Mike Smith by waggling the fish at him.

Nothing sexier than a woman handling a fish with her bare hands... Well, maybe not, but it's still neat!

Here's the thing I really don't get about this tradition: how do you BRING the catfish to the arena? Do you have a cooler filled with fish? Is it hidden on your person? Does everyone in your section hate you because the entire seating area smells like the crotch of 55-year-old Vegas hooker?

Where is the Real Sports investigation into this?
