The Nashville Predators have found their depth center who can play on the second or third line next season, Matt Cullen. He has agreed to terms with the Predators on a two-year, $7 million contract, according TSN's Aaron Ward. On November 2, Cullen will turn 37 years of age. One thing he will bring into the locker room is a veteran presence. Next season will be his 17th year in the league playing for the Mighty Ducks, Panthers, Hurricanes (Stanley Cup winner), Rangers, Senators and most recently the Wild. Last season, Cullen played in 42 games scoring 27 points (7g, 20a) and a +9 rating. His point total would lead all forwards last year on the Nashville roster. Cullen has excellent hockey IQ, but lacks offensive consistancy. One issue Nashville will face is if he can play through the entire season without getting injured often. He is aging and injuries will become a factor. The general consensus when looking at the numbers is that Poile overpayed. $3.5 million annually for a player hitting the low end of his career is a bit much, but there could be something more to this deal. Possibly setting up for a trade to land a legitimate first line center. Take a look at his advanced stats.
