Nashville Predators right wing Brian McGrattan may be getting a call from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan - and it won't be to exchange Christmas well-wishes.
McGrattan was ejected from Thursday's 6-5 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets for his hit on Jared Boll in the first period. He received a five-minute interference penalty and a game misconduct.
"I’ve never laid a dirty hit in my career, never been suspended. I thought it was a shoulder-to-shoulder it," McGrattan said. "Maybe it was the way he went in."
Columbus scored three times on the ensuing power play - and Jeff Carter capped his third career hat trick in the process.
The 30-year-old McGrattan has collected two assists and 54 penalty minutes this season.
