First, David Poile. Next, Pekka Rinne. Now, Shea Weber. The Nashville Predators will be well represented in Las Vegas come June. The Preds captain is nominated for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman. His fellow finalists are Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins and Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators. Chara, the captain of the Bruins, took third in last season’s voting but gladly accepted the Stanley Cup instead. Karlsson, a second year player for the Sens, had a whale of a season. His 78 points led the league in scoring among defensemen and was even 25 points ahead of the next closest blueliner Dustin Byfuglien. Karlsson is considered the front runner for the award based on a couple of factors. One, he plays for a Canadian team. Two, that Canadian team is in the East. Third, the award often goes to a defenseman who’s among the league leaders in scoring. 13-time all-star, three time Stanley Cup Champion and one of the best defensemen this sport has ever seen, Scott Stevens,...

PRESS RELEASE: Poile Named Finalist For NHL General Manager of the Year Award for the third straight year

Via the Nashville Predators, we’ve received news about Predators GM David Poile being nominated for the GM of the Year award. Mike Smith may have been the biggest surprise for many during Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But it is any surprise that he was overlooked for the Vezina Trophy final nominations? Wings May Want To Look More Like Nashville

from John Manasso of FoxSports Tennessee, These days, a somewhat typical Detroit player is speedy wing Valtteri Filppula. The Finn had 23 goals in the regular season and 66 points – more than any member of the Preds—but he did not score during the playoffs and had only two assists. That’s because during the playoffs, it gets harder to score and as Babcock emphasized during...

Western Conference playoff winners show power of goaltending

I'm pretty sure most Eastern Conference teams would love to have a Jonathan Quick of their very own... or a Mike Smith, or a Pekka Rinne, or a Brian Elliott. Heck, a nice Cory Schneider would help any of the Eastern Conference teams out in a pinch. Quite frankly, the goaltending coming out of the Eastern Conference quarter-finals so far has been underwhelming at best. The most...
