In September, Nashville Predators general manager David Poile said of the league's looming realignment, "we're happy with where we are" in the Western Conference's Central Division but with a caveat. While the Predators were the most natural geographic fit to move into the Southeast Division spot vacated by Atlanta when the franchise moved to Winnipeg the entire impetus behind the contentious realignment process two other teams in the Predators' Central Division had a competing claim to move east. Detroit and Columbus both sit within the Eastern Time Zone, while Nashville is in the Central. Perhaps sensing the tension among partner clubs, Poile, at least publicly, did not voice a strong opinion about wanting to move East no matter how much it might have benefitted the organization.
