(Photo by: AP Photo/Mark Humphrey) The Nashville Predators have re-signed restricted free agent Patric Hornqvist to a five-year deal worth $21.25 million. This past season, Hornqvist was plagued with injuries and only suited up for half of the games this season. In 24 games, the Swedish forward posted 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists). According to CapGeek.com, though unofficial, the contract will be even throughout all five years of the contract, meaning Hornqvist will earn $4.25 million per season. On Sunday, Predators' General Manager David Poile told the media his top two priorities this summer is to re-sign RFAs Roman Josi and Patric Hornqvist. In only two days into the offseason, Poile has already completed one important task. Here is what Poile said in the Press Release. “As we build towards the 2013-14 season and beyond, re-signing Patric Hornqvist was an off-season priority,” Poile said. “Since joining the Predators, he has become—and will remain—an integral member of our core group. Patric is everything we talk about as a Predator—he is relentless in going to the net and willing to pay the price to score goals, has a terrific work ethic and is a quality person who is respected on and off the ice. Patric is just entering the prime of his career. He has led our team in goal-scoring in two of the last four seasons and we are looking forward to him being a significant part of the Predators’ on-ice success in the years to come.” As the seasons have progressed in Nashville, Hornqvist has become an important part of the team and has grown as a leader. Next season will be his sixth as a Predator and hopefully in these next five he will raise the Stanley Cup.
