Officially, today’s match-up between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals will be Game 4 of their semifinal series, but technically it will be the fifth game of the series after the two teams slugged it out in a six-period battle that began on Wednesday night and lingered into the wee hours of Thursday morning. The Rangers, as we know, would win that thriller on Marian Gaborik’s tally with just 5:19 remaining in triple overtime. Depending on what the response is from each club today, that game could very well define this series when all is said and done. For the Rangers, it is rather easy to get too high after earning a triple overtime win making the odds of a letdown rather high for this afternoon. Head coach John Tortorella urged in a teleconference on Thursday that this was not a concern for his team, however, as they are very well experienced when it comes to handling emotions and regaining focus after potential distracting moments occur. There’s a vast difference betw...

John Tortorella's game 4 post game presser a bit like an SNL skit

John Tortorella's post-game press conference behavior never gets old. Not even sure yesterday's, following the Rangers' 3-2 loss to the Caps, was his shortest at 35 seconds start to finish. Game... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Weary Rangers, exhausted Capitals regroup

The New York Rangers played what amounted to two games over two days just to get one win against with the Washington Capitals. If it was the decisive game of this terse Eastern Conference series, Rangers coach John Tortorella might have been far more enthusiastic about the outcome. Instead, Tortorella looked at the 2-1, three-overtime victory for exactly what it was: a gritty performance...

More Tortorella brilliance

We here at BSB are big fans of John Tortorella. Sure, he’s curt with the media, but we aren’t media, so we really don’t care what he says in interviews. We are more concerned with his on ice decisions, his roster decisions, and how he handles the locker room. This brilliant move covers the third aspect, and it is directly related to Chris Kreider. Elliotte Friedman of CBC pointed...

Rangers Epitomize Resiliency with Triple Overtime Victory

Since Day One, New York Rangers coach John Tortorella couldn’t stress enough the importance of being well-conditioned throughout an 82-game schedule as well as a potential deep run into the playoffs. Game Three of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Washington Capitals made that philosophy vividly clear. In a series that has thus far been [...]

Rangers falter, allow Caps to even series

This was precisely John Tortorella's point after the New York Rangers had survived and won a triple-overtime marathon in Game 3 against the Washington Capitals in their second-round playoff series. As exhilarating as that victory was, it counted as just one win, and it wouldn't mean much, Tortorella said, without a strong follow-up performance Saturday. But the Rangers...

New Lines in Practice, Zuccarello on Road to Return

Late in Wednesday's 2-1 triple overtime win in Washington, head coach John Tortorella mixed up the offensive lines in attempt to spark the game-winner in what was a well-defended outing for the third time in this series. He rolled with those lines through the overtime periods, as the game progressed from the fourth period to the sixth, and these combinations clearly began to...

Gaborik Comes Through in Triple OT

There was no doubt that going into last night’s Game 3 between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center, Blueshirts’ 41-goal scorer Marian Gaborik was having trouble putting the puck in the net. Well, that changed last night and did so in very dramatic fashion. Gaborik scored a goal in the third overtime off a nice feed from Brad Richards to give his...

Gaborik Joins OT Heroes

from Mike Vaccaro of the NY Post, Hockey fans don’t need much in the way of reference points; surnames will do just fine. There isn’t a Rangers fan who was alive on the evening of May 27, 1994, who needs anything other than the word “Matteau” to summon time, place, who they were with, what they were drinking, what they were screaming. Go back a few years. If you’re old...

In a conversation with Jeff Klein at the New York Times, John Tortorella discussed how Ryan Callahan became the Ranger organization's 26th captain..."Sometimes people allow the team to vote, but I didn't need to have the team vote.
