Smith making timely impact for Preds

Last week, Predators head coach Barry Trotz called rookie Craig Smith the team’s best forward. And he wasn’t exaggerating. Smith’s quick transition to the NHL game has helped the Preds immensely in the first month of action.Through 11 games, Smith is the Predators’ second leading point-getter, with four goals and five assists. That production couldn’t have come at a...

Around the Room: Movember

Tomorrow is November 1st, and players all over the NHL grow mustaches in November to raise awareness for men’s health. The term used during the month is, simply, Movember.Last year, many Predators grew one. So I asked 16 players the same question: Who will have the best and worst mustache for Movember?Nick SpalingBest: “I’ll go with Laakso. He always has a mustache, so he’s...

Preds' season still a mix of good and bad

Before the season started, Nashville Predators general manager David Poile said he would give his team until Nov. 15 before he started tinkering with the roster in the event that things were not going smoothly. After some early stumbles, the Preds appear to have righted the ship for the most part. They went through a 1-4-1 stretch, but have a 3-1-1 record in the past five games...

Predators C Fisher to return vs. Coyotes

Nashville Predators center Mike Fisher is expected to return to the ice for Thursday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes. Playing in just his third game since returning from offseason surgery, Fisher suffered a concussion after he was hit by Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin during Saturday's 3-0 victory. “You never know how bad those can be - concussions,...

The fans at the UC ended up receiving treats on Monday night (BECAUSE IT WAS HALLOWEEN IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT YET FROM ALL THE OTHER PUNS ON HOCKEY SITES) after the Blackhawks beat the Predators in Super Fun Extra Hockey Time.  It was a nerve-racking game from the get-go and stayed hotly contested until the last goal was scored, but alls well that ends well, right? ...

Preds drop overtime decision in Chicago

The Predators held a lead three different times, but it was not enough as they lost 5-4 in overtime in Chicago. Patric Hornqvist extended his goal streak with a pair of tallies, while Patrick Kane burned the Preds once again with two goals of his own. Viktor Stalberg scored the game-winner for the Blackhawks in overtime. To the Predators’ credit, they fought hard to get a point...

To Catch A Predator: Blackhawks Edition

The Nashville Predators  or as they're known to Hawks fans, "The Most Annoying Team In the World" visit the United Center tonight. Every year, the Preds show up with no names, a bunch of kids, Shea Weber and Ryan Suter, and make life hell on everyone. They do it through their exemplary coaching and discipline. They forecheck hard, they don't take penalties, they...

A “Happy” Halloween

The Hawks, playing their third game in four days, found a way to beat Nashville Monday night. Corey Crawford was back in net for Chicago, going up against Pekka Rinne (for my money, the toughest goalie the Hawks faced during the ‘10 playoffs). The Hawks entered the game with a league leading, 94% penalty kill. Conversely, they were a ridiculous, 27th place in the league on the...

Nashville Predators (5-4-1) at Chicago Blackhawks (6-2-2), 8:30 p.m. (ET)

The Predators know they are solid in goal thanks to the play of Pekka Rinne. It's staying healthy up front that has given the club problems so far.
