Season Records

Edmonton Oilers 10-7-2 (prior to Monday night’s game against Dallas)

Nashville Predators 10-5-4

Predators captain Shea Weber has been on the ice for Nashville's last 12 goals

The Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators have a lot in common. Both teams are young. The two squads share similar records. Finally, Nashville and Edmonton are lead by a veteran and a rookie. David Legwand and Craig Smith share the points lead among the Predators with 15 points each. Prior to Monday’s contest in Dallas, Ryan Smyth and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins were tied for the lead in points amongst all Edmonton skaters with 19 points.

Tuesday night’s game at Bridgestone Arena should be a good one with all eyes on the rookie scoring race as well as whether or not the Predators will end their 5-game homestand without a regulation loss.

The Oilers have back-to-back contests Monday and Tuesday night against Dallas and Nashville respectively. The Oilers are coming off of a 9-2 beating of the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night that saw rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins record 5 points in a single game.

The Oilers have struggled on the road, posting a 3-5-1 record away from Rexall Place, and are a mediocre 5-5-0 in their last 10 outings. The Predators host Edmonton to conclude their 5-game homestand. Nashville has gone 4-0-2 at home since October 27th.  On Saturday night, Nashville’s 17 game winning streak against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Bridgestone Arena came to an end. The Predators lost 4-3 in overtime to Columbus, their first win in Nashville since April 2006.

Despite the loss, Nashville has been playing some pretty solid hockey as of late, posting a 6-1-3 record in their last 10 games and have points in 11 of the last 13 games.

Nashville is not the same team that lost 3-1 to the Oilers on October 17th — a team that recorded a mere 12 shots on goal. It had been an effort Predators forward Jerred Smithson referred to as embarrassing.

Nashville is now healthy with three players in the lineup who were unavailable to the Predators the last time the two teams met, including Francis Bouillon, Mike Fisher and Martin Erat .

The Oilers come into Nashville having suffered a fair number of injuries. Cam Barker is out after having ankle surgery. Ryan Whitney has a sprained knee. Darcy Hordichuk also has a knee injury. Andy Sutton and Corey Potter also more recently suffered injuries. Sutton is listed by TSN as having a groin injury and Potter is another Oiler with an ankle issue.

Predators captain and alternate captain have been leading from the blue line. Shea Weber has been on the ice for the last 12 goals scored for Nashville. This streak dates back to November 9th against the Ducks. Ryan Suter is close behind, having been on the ice for 10 straight going back to Nashville’s 1,000th regular-season game on November 12th against Montreal.

The game is the first of two visits to Bridgestone Arena the Oilers will make this year. The puck drops shortly after 7 pm CT. After Tuesday night’s game, the Predators hit the road and play Minnesota on Wednesday night. The Wild surprisingly lead the Western Conference in points prior to the start of Monday night’s games.
