Luca Caputi (Martin Skoula) was acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Pittsburg Penguins for Alexei Ponikarovsky. At a 6’ 2” & 184lbs frame Caputi has all of the physical tools to develop into a powerful checking forward at the NHL level. At 6-2, 184 pounds, Caputi’s game is based upon paying a price physically/taking one for the team. Caputi potential can be as high as 20 goals, although he will be scoring most of his goals in an around the net. Caputi has a strong game in the corners and below the net, not Mats Sundin strength, but enough to make him either a 3rd or 2nd line winger one day in the NHL. One area where Caputi must improve is his skating skills, where his initial stride to get on the free puck, is not as quick as the average NHL player. Caputi’s best hockey season was in 2007-08 where he recorded 51 goals and 60 assist for 111 points with the Niagara Ice Dogs. Caputi has 35 NHL games under his belt with 3 goals and 8 points.
