Amidst all the rumblings around here about Dominik Hasek yesterday, the Red Wings went out and made an official signing - their fourth round NHL Draft selection back in 2010.20 year-old Teemu Pulkkinen has been signed to a three-year entry level deal.Pulkkinen is just the second Finnish born player that Detroit has ever drafted...heartbreaker (my wife's anyway) Valtteri Filppula being the first. The 5'10 and nearly 200 lbs Pulkkinen is a right-handed shot...something in short supply in Hockeytown but usually plays on the left side.  He's played the past two seasons with Jokerit (former stomping grounds of Ville Leino) in Helsinki.Make the jump for more info. Since going pro in the SM-liiga in 2008, Pulkkinen has accumulated 35 goals and 94 points in 126 games played for Jokerit. He's also been impressing the world at his international play.  Back in 2009, he finished third in scoring at the IIHF World Under 18 Championship by accruing 13 points in just six games played.  In 2010, he was THE leading scorer at the same tournament by lighting the lamp ten times and adding five helpers for 15 points in just six games played. On December 30th of 2011, in a game against Denmark at the 2012 World Junior Championships, Pulkkinen scored four goals in the third period alone...tying the World Junior mark set in 1980 for most goals in a single game.According to Click on Detroit - Pulkkinen will remain in Finland for next season...but I can't wait to see this kid in Traverse City...and then Grand Rapids...and eventually Detroit. And why not?  Here's a Youtube video of the kid:Excited about this kid?  You probably should be.
