Ironically, on their barnstorming run to the Stanley Cup final, the Kings have really encountered only one trouble spot: that pesky matter of actually trying to close out a series. In all four rounds, the Kings took a 3-0 series lead and put themselves in a wonderful opportunity to close things out at home. Three of those four times, the Kings lost, including Wednesday night, when the New Jersey Devils stayed alive in the series with a 3-1 victory at Staples Center. The bad news for the Kings is that they have to play another game. The good news is that they have been in this situation two previous times, and both times they won on the road in Game 5. Winning on the road is never easy for any team, and even though the Kings are 10-0 on the road in this postseason, that statistic won't help them on the ice in Game 5 on Saturday against the Devils. The Kings have four players who have previously won the Stanley Cup and five other players who had previously been to the final an...

Kings taste slim margin between win or lose

The Los Angeles Kings' 15-3 postseason record can't be deceiving, can it? For a team that has won all 10 of its road games and faltered at its chance to become the first team since the 1988 Edmonton Oilers to post a 16-2 playoff record en route to winning the Stanley Cup, the margin between winning and losing isn't as stark as their record indicates. Remember the 2001...

The championship flurry of the King’s Jonathan Quick.

If you hadn’t heard the NHL’s hottest name before this playoffs, you certainly should be familiar with it by now after the outstanding play of the Los Angeles Kings’ Jonathan Quick, who has all but secured the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in its 45 year history. Kings could finally bask in a Stanley Cup moment

A fan outside Staples Center on Monday seemed to capsulize the plight of Kings fans. Above the number on the back of his Kings jersey, instead of his name, were the words love and hate. Kings fans have a moment they can simply love. After 45 years, three owners, two lockouts, one bankruptcy and countless promises, the Kings are poised to deliver. With a victory tonight over the...

Major challenge awaiting Kings in Newark

As imminent as a game-winner may have appeared to some after Drew Doughty's third period equalizer Saturday night, the Los Angeles Kings once again boarded a charter flight bound for a Game 5 expecting their stiffest challenge during a postseason in which they've bit, clawed and scraped to a 15-3 record. "We're not going to add more pressure than we need to,"...

L.A. news anchor flubs Kings goalie's name

It hasn’t been a good week for the local news people. Earlier this week, some poor lady thought game four in the Heat-Celtics series ended in a tie. Another Los Angeles news woman had an issue reporting on the Los Angeles Kings 4-0 win against the New Jersey Devils in game three of the Stanley Cup Finals. A Los Angeles news anchor, let me repeat…a Los Angeles news anchor called...

Devils offer Sheen tix, place to smoke

Following his meltdown outside the Staples Center during Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Charlie Sheen has now been offered a few perks by the Devils for Game 5.

Back at practice, Kings again have eyes on prize

Jonathan Quick was back in lockdown mode: preparing for Game 5 of the finals as though it were Game 1, and not the Los Angeles Kings' second chance to claim the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. As he did on media day in advance of the series opener against the New Jersey Devils, the Kings' stellar goalie faced reporters on Friday with a baseball cap yanked...

Adam Carolla wears Kings gear on Kimmel

Comedian Adam Carolla visited his old pal on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show last night dressed in full Los Angeles Kings gear— including pads, helmet and on rollerblades— to show support for his "favorite" team. Taking a jab at Los Angelelans— or whatever they're called— coming out of the woodwork during the Kings playoff run and hockey fever takes...

Kings offer reward in shooting

The Los Angeles Kings contributed half of the $100,000 reward being offered Wednesday for information leading to the capture of the person who shot dead a one-year-old boy amid apparent gang warfare in the city.

Another LA media blunder: Jonathan Swift

Are local media stations in Los Angeles suddenly in on the joke? It seems like after each game the Kings play a different station uses an incorrect logo, team name or butchers a key player's name. The media coverage after LA's big Game 3 victory provided yet another gem as the Fox station in Los Angeles incorrectly called Jonathan Quick by...
