NEWARK, N.J. -- A year ago, the New Jersey Devils failed to make the NHL playoffs for the first time in 14 years. It was a down time for the proud and storied franchise, one that had captured three Stanley Cup championships since 1995. Now, with a new coach, a new system, some new players and some late-season confidence, the Devils are making their first trip to the Stanley Cup finals since winning the Cup in 2003. Adam Henrique snapped a 2-2 tie just 1:03 into the overtime session, leading the Devils to a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers to capture the best-of-seven NHL Eastern Conference championship series, four games to two. With the win, the Devils advance to the Stanley Cup finals against the Los Angeles Kings. Game 1 of the finals will be played Wednesday night at the Prudential Center in Newark. After regulation ended at 2-2, the Devils made a mad scramble in front early in OT. Ilya Kovalchuk kept the puck alive with two pokes in front of Rangers goalkeeper Henr...

Rookie sends Devils to Cup Finals

Parise A Wanted Man

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal at Canada.com, Has there been a hotter ticket than New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise on the free-agent stage in the last 10 years? You can see how badly he wants to win, the pistons pumping as he hunts down a loose puck in the neutral zone and sends it into the open net to ensure the Game 5 win for the Devils at Madison Square Garden...

Todd Cordell: Adam Henrique's OT winner sends the Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals

Adam Henrique made a name for himself in the National Hockey League with his regular season play, and his name has only gotten bigger and bigger as the playoffs have went on. He's scored arguably the two biggest goals of the New Jersey Devils post-season run, and for those, like myself, who have watched him play since his days with the Windsor Spitfires, it has been no surprise...

New Jersey Devils Make The Finals

Who would have predicted that New Jersey would make the Stanley Cup finals this year?  They missed the playoffs last year with a very similar roster to the one they have this year.  If I made a power ranking list I wouldn’t have ranked them in the top ten when the season ended.  They wound up with the ninth best record at the end of the regular season.  There is little to see...

An Unexpected Stanley Cup Final

The National Hockey League will have either the New Jersey Devils or the Los Angeles Kings hoisting the Stanley Cup in two weeks or less, who expected that? The Devils, seeded sixth in the East squeaked by the Florida Panthers in the first round, winning in double overtime in Game 7.  In the East Semifinal round the Devils won four straight games after losing Game 1 against the...

Zach Parise - Because It's The Cup

This was a commercial that I saw on the NHL Network tonight, it was the first time that I had seen it. Former Fighting Sioux forwards Zach Parise and Travis Zajac are one win away from putting three former Fighting Sioux players in the Stanley Cup Finals. Also, when the Stanley Cup is presented after the cup clinching game, an "American" Captain will accept the Stanley...

Classic Sid - Granlund would look better with Parise

English: Zach Parise (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Duh! I wonder if Sid has even been to a hockey game lately? I always get a kick out of Sid Hartman's writings - although hockey has never been a strong subject for Sid. Of course Parise would look better along side Mikael Granlund and or Mikko Koivu for that matter. There are probably 25-29 teams that are interested in...

Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils - Los Angeles Kings Stats Preview + Series Prediction

We are just a few days away from Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings, which means it's time to start previewing the series instead of recapping previous series'. Todd Cordell: Devils steal Game 5 vs. Rangers, take 3-2 series lead back to New Jersey

Last night the New Jersey Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead, allowed the New York Rangers to come back and tie it, and then regrouped to come away with a 5-3 win to take a 3-2 series lead. Here are some notes on what turned out to be a very odd, yet eventful, game. - Though the Devils have to be thrilled they went into Madison Square Garden with the series tied, and walked away...

Video- The Surprising New Jersey Devils

Richard Cloutier: Thoughts a Plenty

Don't forget to add me on Twitter: @rdcloutier Here's some random thoughts for this Sunday: - Lotsa talk about the Stanley Cup Finals and which team is going to win. Ummm, LA? True, the Devils have perhaps the two best forwards in Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise. But the Kings have so much depth. At forward, on D, even in goal. The Stanley Cup playoffs are a marathon...
