The New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators by the score of 4-2 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup to take a 1-0 lead in their best of seven series. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports....the best part of tonight's victory was that the Rangers came out and played their game. They didn't try to add any wrinkles to combat the Senators skill players. Just rode a relentless forecheck and their defensive system the way that have all year....wouldn't have expected any player to set the tone other than Callahan....ridonkulous move by Gaborik waiting Anderson out and burying it using that lightning quick release....really not sure how you guys continue to read this blog when I make predictions such as the Richards signing would be a bad move. Just a little off with that one. ...sort of a good timeout by Torts....Boyle went from can't buy a goal, to chipping in with a couple, to full blown sniper....can someone tell Del Zotto to stop s...

Rangers Begin Their Quest for the Cup Tonight

The 2011-2012 regular season was a pure joy for the New York Rangers and their fans. The team was put in the spotlight from day one when they began the season in Europe, and then came HBO’s 24/7 followed by the Winter Classic, all while the Blueshirts were racking up the wins and ascending to the top of the Eastern Conference. As I discussed on this blog earlier in the week, the...

A Healthy Callahan Huge for Rangers

Dave Lozo at NHL.com says, after missing the playoffs last year because of a broken leg, having a healthy Ryan Callahan will be huge for the Rangers..."This is what you play 82 games for, is this time of year," Callahan said. "Last year was hard for me, missing the playoffs not being able to be part of it. I'm excited for it this year."Here's John Tortorella...

A Potentially Big Ranger Decision

The New York Rangers signed their 2009 first round draft pick Chris Kreider to a three year entry level contract on Tuesday.  He is fresh off helping his Boston College team win the NCAA championship.  He is joining the New York Rangers for their playoff run.  Is he NHL ready?  More than likely we will find out.  If Kreider plays one game in the playoff run, it will count as...

Unheralded McDonagh Could Have Major Impact

Tom Awad at ESPN Insider takes a look at four players whose impact on their team's potential postseason success far outweighs their reputation, including Ryan McDonagh..."McDonagh had the seventh-highest Quality of Competition among all NHL players and the highest on the Rangers; Girardi was 12th in the league. McDonagh also started only 43 percent of his shifts in the offensive...

Karlsson led...

Rangers Look for Game 1 Success to Carry Over into Game 2

Given the way that they played Game 1, the New York Rangers have every reason to come into tonight’s Game 2 with the Ottawa Senators in a very cocky manner. However, that would not be this year’s team style. Throughout the regular season, the Blueshirts never let themselves get too high or too low and because of that attitude, it allowed them to stay focused on the task at hand...

Rangers’ Offense Comes Up Big in Game 1 Win

Coming into the series between the New York Rangers vs. Ottawa Senators, no one really knew what to expect except for what was on paper. In Game 1 tonight at Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers showed their fans and the league why they finished where they did in defeating the Ottawa Senators by a score of 4-2. For a Senators team that had dominated the Blueshirts at MSG...

Morreale at NHL.com reports that the trio of Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek may be skating together often tonight..."They bring a lot of experience and it's definitely a line that can generate offense on a consistent basis," Ottawa Head Coach Paul MacLean said."If we do that, we'll have to juggle things a little bit; we might do...

Assessing the Rangers’ First Round Bout with Senators

Getty Images By Christopher Decker (@HockeyGuy_Chris) As if squandering the chance on the last game of the season at their first Presidents’ Trophy since the 1993-94 season weren’t enough, the New York Rangers head in to the first round against a resurgent Ottawa Senators team who took three out of four games against New York in the regular season. This will not be an easy series...

John Tortorella stared into a packed interview room on the eve of the Stanley Cup playoffs. With several cameras in his face and a swarm of reporters another row back, the fiery coach of the New York Rangers impatiently awaited the first question. Awkward silence followed until he broke it. ''Five, four, three,'' he counted down. It was met with laughter, but...
