Ryan Callahan and Artem Anisimov scored as part of a four-goal first period, and the New York Rangers clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time since 1994 with a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. The Rangers are tops in the East for the first time since Mark Messier led them to their last Stanley Cup championship 18 years ago. The Rangers, who lead the overall NHL standings with 109 points, are assured of home-ice advantage until at least the Stanley Cup finals. The Rangers are atop the East thanks to a stunning series sweep of the Atlantic Division-rival Flyers. They went 6-0 against Philadelphia for the first time in 40 years. Ryan McDonagh and Brian Boyle also scored to help the Rangers storm to a 4-0 lead. Marian Gaborik added his 41st goal, and Henrik Lundqvist earned his career-best 39th victory.

Lundqvist “questionable” for tomorrow

Per Blueshirt Banter, citing the NHL Network, it appears that Henrik Lundqvist is questionable for Thursday’s showdown against the Penguins. Lundqvist hurt his right forearm after diving to stop a Claude Giroux shot in the second period. He took the shot in the forearm on an unprotected area, and was shown on TV in pain as the second period ended. Personally, I’ve played goalie...

Rangers/Flyers Recap: Rangers clinch the top seed

The Rangers played a strong first period, but terrible second and third periods in this 5-3 win over the Flyers. After the first it was 4-0, but it was all Flyers after that. The Rangers were lucky to be in this game after the second, and even luckier to even have a lead halfway through the third. The Rangers may have won this game –and earned a series sweep against the Flyers–...

When it comes to Chris Kreider, most people are on the fence about what to do. Many are of the feeling that Kreider will join the Rangers for the playoffs after the Frozen Four is completed. Others, myself included, believe that he will join the organization, but it will be with the Connecticut Whale. Both sides have compelling arguments. Let’s first kill the first rumor: No one...

Yes, we all know what happened that year but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Blueshirts jumped...

Rangers-Flyers Preview

Despite a loss in their last game, the New York Rangers need just one point to clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Rangers-Penguins Preview

The New York Rangers know they'll have home-ice advantage for as long as they're alive in the Eastern Conference playoffs, while the Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping to at least open the first round in their own building. Getting two points Thursday night at Consol Energy Center would ensure that, as the Penguins look for a fourth consecutive victory over a Rangers team that...

Musings; Playoffs anyone?

It’s late and for that I apologise. On to the Musings. The way Brad Richards has taken his game to a higher level recently is why the Rangers gave him the big dollars. He’s peaking at the right time heading in to the playoffs and the Rangers have a (legitimate) first line for the first time since the Jagr-Nylander-Straka years. Ryan Callahan deserves a 30 goal season; hopefully...
