Very nice way to end a two-game losing streak and a very complete win over the Baby Buffaloes for No. 2,500 in franchise history, for No. 4 in a row on the road, No. 13 in the last 17 games overall. Right back at it tonight against the Cats (7:30 starter). Thoughts: 1) The Rangers were really in control of the first 10 minutes of the game and I thought they did Jhonas Enroth a favor by repeatedly missing the net. Though Tomas Vanek sure returned the favor a couple of times later in the period. 2) In the first 15 minutes, I saw six or seven incidents of infractions that would have been called the first six weeks of the season, and weren’t called. And I’m sure OK with that, if the officials are really de-pansifying to a degree. I especially don’t mind if the guy with the puck has to fight through some minor hooks or holds or whacks. And it’s really also alright with me if they continue to tightly call the interference against guys without the puck, as they did on consecutiv...

Rangers Dominate Panthers In 6-1 Rout

The New York Rangers dominated from start to finish in a 6-1 domination over the Florida Panthers. Derek Stepan scored twice including a tremendous end to end rush early in the second period as a penalty expired.  Marian Gaborik, Artem Anisimov, Brad Richards and Steve Eminger got in on the act. The Rangers special teams was excellent tonight as they tallied twice and killed off...

Anisimov Quote: “I’m fine.”

Andrew Gross reports that Artem Anisimov is ok following his head injury in the third period. Anisimov had the following to say: “Me and the Buffalo guy were skating to the puck, I probably touched it first,” Anisimov said. He hit me (Anisimov taps himself on the right shoulder) and the glass went to my [...]

Avery scratched in favor of Christensen

The effective difference is that Sean Avery was scratched for last night's entire Rangers-Panthers match at the Garden instead of just for the third period, as he had been by coach John Tortorella for most of the previous six games. Avery had averaged just 5:44 overall over his...

Stepan's two goals help Rangers dominate Florida

Derek Stepan scored twice, including a pretty coast-to-coast goal just after the Rangers killed a penalty, and New York beat the Florida Panthers 6-1 on Sunday night.

Freaky Friday

Remind us never to mention how strange things can get covering New York Ranger or New York Islander prospects because it just winds up getting stranger. The theme for Friday night might as well be "How to blow a lead without really trying." We kid you not as we had 6 games where leads were blown, 4 games where teams tried to give away leads and 2 come from behind wins...

Ticket contest rules and regulations

OK, tomorrow we will do a predict-the-score contest, the winner getting two tickets to the Ottawa-Rangers game at MSG Jan. 12, courtesy of our Bonehead donor. So let’s review the rules, shall we? (answer: yes). 1) This is the easy part. You pick the score, then a bunch of tiebreakers: game-winning goal, Rangers shots, Sabres shots. Your entry should look something like this...

Even With Mistakes, Sabres Youth Making Impact

Things have not been going so smoothly in “Hockey Heaven” lately. The Sabres can’t win at home, they can’t hold on to a lead, and their players have been dropping left and right from injuries forcing them to call-up countless players from AHL affiliate Rochester. And it’s all due to an excuse that people everywhere hate to hear, injures. The NHL season is just two months...

Pominville's OT goal boosts Sabres by Panthers

Jason Pominville scored at 2:19 of overtime, and Ryan Miller finished with 22 saves to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Friday night.

GARTH: Black Ice

Now would be a good time for the Sabres brass to sit down in the conference room to do an honest self-evaluation. The team continues to find new, infuriating ways to lose hockey games. Saturday night's loss to the NY Rangers was a direct result of a terrible power play strategy, that yielded two unprecedented shorthanded goals. Jhonas Enroth allowed four goals, three of which...
