Neil Greenberg at ESPN Insider warns Rangers fans about too high of expectations for Chris Kreider this season...

"Kreider, on the other hand, should be met with some tempered expectations. The former Boston College Eagle scored five goals in the playoffs -- a record for players who began their careers in the postseason -- but fans shouldn't get carried away anticipating massive production during a full regular season. Players similar to Kreider -- 21-year-old rookie forwards who dressed for at least 40 games -- can provide a solid estimate. Since the lockout, those players have averaged 15 goals on 131 shots with 18 assists playing 1,045 minutes over an 82-game season."

...great job by Greenberg using solid facts to lower expectations for Kreider.

...i'm just as excited as the next Rangers fan for a full season of Kreider. But if anyone is expecting much more than 20 goals is likely to be disappointed. Yes, Kreider had a lot of success during the playoffs, but in college he never played more than 44 games in a season. So you have to assume doubling the amount of games and travel will have a negative impacted on him both mentally and physically this year.

...i really hope I'm wrong and he pumps in 30 goals, but all I'm really looking for is continued improvement in his game all season and the ability to fight through the inevitable slumps.

Greenberg adds that Carl Hagelin is another young player with high expectations this season.

...while I agree Hagelin will be counted on for increased production this season, to me Derek Stepan has a lot more pressure to perform. This is his third year in the league and he could potentially be centering one of the NHL's best players in Rick Nash. The Rangers can't afford for Stepan to take a step back this season.

...would love to hear your thoughts on Kreider expectations and who has more pressure this year Hagelin or Stepan.
