Being that the New York Rangers were shutout 2-0 tonight by Craig Anderson and the Ottawa Senators in Game 5, that could be the understatement of the season. The Rangers did a much better job tonight of getting pucks on net and crashing for rebounds but Anderson turned away all 41 shots that were thrown at him for his second career shutout. The Rangers are now just one loss away from elimination in what would be an extremely disappointing end to the Blueshirts’ season. It is clear that the Blueshirts are struggling to score goals when it matters in this series. While Brad Richards had more than a handful of shots on goal, he was not able to put the puck in the net when the team needed him the most. Guys like Marian Gaborik, Derek Stepan, Ruslan Fedotenko, and Brandon Dubinsky were all kept quiet and for a team that needs other players to step up and score goals, that is not a good thing. The team’s power play also struggled tonight. While this is nothing new for the Rangers, the ...

Replacing Boyle in the lineup

When Chris Neil took out Brian Boyle with a questionable hit on Saturday night, he took out the Rangers most effective forward. He took out their leading scorer, top defensive forward, and top penalty killer in this series. He took out the only player that has managed to get under the skin of the Senators. It’s a big blow to the Rangers, and not a player easily replaced. The best...

Can You Find Derek Stepan In This Photo?

It might be easier to find Derek Stepan in this photo than on the ice. (Click to enlarge) Derek Stepan has quickly become one of the most invisible Rangers as of lately.  His play has slowly declined a little each game this season.  The same thing happened last season, his rookie season, where he started [...]

Sather Supports Torts' Line-up Decisions

In an interview with Larry Brooks at the New York Post, Glen Sather says he's leaving all the line-up decisions to John Tortorella..."It's completely up to Torts to play who he wants, when he wants, as much as he wants," Sather says. "He has to put out the guys he trusts the most."This isn't the time of year to have debates. It's the time for me...

Pregame: Rangers in Big Need of Game 5 Response

Just four games have been played between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators in this Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series, but already the drama has been at an extraordinary high. Rangers-Senators Preview

If you didn't know the top-seeded New York Rangers were one loss away from elimination, the low-key practice before their biggest game of the season wouldn't have given away the dire circumstances. After their best seasons in years, the Rangers are trailing the No. 8 seed, the Ottawa Senators, 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. If New York doesn't win on the road Monday...
