Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that the Rangers are interested in obtaining the rights to negotiate with Nashville's RFA Alexander Radulov...

"The degree to which these discussions between Sather and Poile have advanced is unknown, but The Post has learned this is more than the GM "kicking the tires." The Blueshirts, of course, would have to be given a window in which to conduct contract negotiations with Radulov before agreeing to trade for his rights."

Brooks adds that Radulov, who scored 46 combined goals his first two NHL seasons, has a lucrative contract offer on the table from CKSA of the KHL, so the Predators may trade his rights on the cheap instead of losing him to Russia for nothing.

Radulov, a KHL MVP, has played in the Russian league the last four seasons before returning to the Predators for the stretch run and the playoffs this season. He had seven points in nine regular season games and six points in eight playoff games after joining Preds.

Radulov and teammate Andrei Kostitsyn were suspended/scratched for Games 3 and 4 of the second round against the Coyotes after having missed curfew the night before Game 2.

...last year the Islanders only gave up a fourth round pick to obtain negotiating right for Vancouver's Christian Ehrhoff, so if that's all it'll cost for the 25-year old Radulov, why not? Plus if it looks like they can't get something done, the Rangers could try to deal his rights to someone else.

...sure the guy's got some character issues between bolting for the KHL in the middle of his entry level contract and his late night Phoenix bender, but with Gaborik likely to miss at least the first two, possibly three, months of the season the Rangers need to acquire some scoring. The Rangers are always talking about having "character" guys in the locker room, so this move would stray from that mantra a bit.

...i'm still not convinced the Rangers end up with either Nash or Parise this off season so Radulov would make a great Plan B. Having said that, I wouldn't offer more than a one-year deal for $3 million.

...would love to hear your thoughts in comments section.
